Man City v Liverpool Champions League Quarterfinal 2nd leg. 12:35 - Mar 16 with 2635 viewsdingdangblue

Has been confirmed Tuesday 10th April - the night we play Wigan at Spotland. The sensible option from a commercial point of view would be to play our game 24hrs later on the Wednesday. Certainly any floating Dale or even Wigan fans could be put off coming to our game.

Attendances at Spotland are not affected by European Cup football. They are only affected by the fact that the majority of people in the town have no interest in watching the town's team.

So you don't think there are people who go Dale who also support City or Liverpool?

You are quite right of course.

The few thousand that went missing between Spurs at home and MK Dons at home were all Dale and Man Utd fans watching the 1st leg of the Sevilla game. The same applied to the 2nd leg on Tuesday night which accounts for the 2,200 and something at the Southend game.

These Man Utd fans will now have defected to either Liverpool or Man City for the next round.

I know of quite a few City fans who like to take in a game or two at San Spotty every season.....just look around at the woolly hats prevalent at the moment.

Big attendance at Dale tomorrow then as Man City don't have a game.

Who said anything about a few thousand? Even if we were 100 down on potential customers (Dale or Wigan) that's £2000 we can't afford to lose. And no disrespect to Man Utd v Sevilla but a Man City v Liverpool Quarter final is about a hundred times more appealing to a football fan.

"A few thousand" was based on the suggestion that Dale playing at home on the same night as the European Cup is on TV will affect attendance at Dale.
The home stands for MK Dons were a few thousand missing from the Sunday against Spurs. The night of the MK Dons game coincided with Man Utd being on TV in the European Cup. The Man Utd game must have been the reason for a few thousand less on the gate at Dale.
I agree that Liverpool v Man City in the European Cup on TV will be more appealing to the generic football fan but I would still think that, should he or she be able to attend the game, the Dale Supporter will still be at the home game on the same night.

The bigger concern should be finding out what we've done differently to try and retain some of those who turned up v Spurs.

You've not quite grasped it.

You think the European Cup on TV will affect the attendance at Dale the same evening and I don't.

If any Dale "fans" would rather watch City on telly then that's their lookout. Utd were playing the other night and that did not affect our attendance and I would say there are plenty of rag fans in Rochdale that attend the odd Dale game.

Think the idea of switching the game to Weds has some benefit. Maybe a 100 as you say DDB. Then again, moving it will incur some cost. And then there's the sentiment that why should we just cos there's something on the telly.

Has anyone ever considered the number of people (especially those from out of town) who can't get to midweek games because of a lack of suitable public of transport.

It would be interesting to know if the club had any sort of stats to show if concessionary admissions dip on a Tuesday?
