....in all sorts of strife at St.James Park. Disallowed a wonderful strike by the home team for offside. The lino flagged it and I think it was the correct decision,three Newcastle players clearly in an offside position,the crucial point being,were they interfering with play? Two weren`t,but one was directly in front of Hart and had to move out of the way or it would`ve hit him,so to me,he`s interfering with play. All credit to Mr Jones though,it was a red hot atmosphere and I think he reffed the game really well. |  | | |  |

I would agree he got both decisions wrong (disallowed goal and non sending off) but I think he's being villified too much.
There were 3 Newcastle players in an offside position and one of them was so close to the ball he had to move to get out of the way of it and the ref had a decision to make without any replay.
As SL / Shankly said - if you're on the pitch you're interfering with play.
Wrong decision but stupid stupid rule.

Tough one.
I'd have initially said that the Newcastle players aren't interfering with play, but would the keeper have dived for the ball if the defenders weren't there, but instead chose to anticipate a touch / deflection from them, thus not moving? In which case, interfering with play. Not that I think he'd have saved the shot anyway! |  | | |

I was a little worried against Leeds every challenge in the first half was a yellow card!! Luckily he forgot his cards in the second half or it could have been a different game. In the end I thought he had a reasonable game. | |
