Portsmouth (H) - Match Thread
at 16:48 23 Nov 2019

Let’s be honest and admit this is just sh*t to watch.
Keep the ball without actually doing anything with it! At one point the stats read 73% possession, 0 shots on target and losing 1-0.
The next possession stat that popped up was 74% and losing 2-0.
You have the Dale commentators saying how good we are playing and that it’s all Dale! You’ve got to be having a laugh they haven’t looked worried by us once in this game and we haven’t threatened their goal once with any kind of real chance.
We must be one of the easiest teams to play against in the entire league, when they know all they have to do is let us have the ball and then counter because our defending is a joke.

Wycombe Match
at 17:39 28 Sep 2019

That game was crap from the 1st minute to the 95th.
Everything we did was too slow and with not threat.
Williams is a good midfielder but an awful centre half. Jimmy Ryan is yet to impress me in a Dale shirt, everything he does in slow and only goes sideways or back.
I really felt for Rathbone and RND today because they ran their bollocks off for the team with no reward.
That may have been the slowest and most inept front line I've seen in a long time for Dale. No creativity and not a chance of beating their man. Even Hendo looks to be a couple of yards shorter for pace this season.
My big worry is that injuries to the squad have already caught up to us in September. It could be a very long season from here if we don't get a young decent striker on loan in Jan.
Hopefully it was more of an Old Trafford hangover than what we would usually see for the rest of the season.
Up The Dale!

Hill's first signing

Personally I hope Bolton get everything they deserve for the years of spending beyond their means. I hope they get spanked every week and get relegated to league 2.
After talking to a few of their fans last time they were in this division with us, I can't say I've met a set of more arrogant fans ever. Believed they had no business being in league 1 and if they don't smash every team by at least 2 or 3 they're playing shite.
League 2 would be a great eye opener for them fans I had the pleasure of meeting that day.

Wanted this tie in any cup my entire life and now it's come along I can't go due to not living in the country anymore.
Won't be missing any of it though I'll be watching somehow or at least listen cheering the boys on.
Can't wait for this well deserved tie against one of the top teams.

Thought we played very well and kept the ball excellently.
Tough one to take so late on with the goal.
Thought everyone had a good game from back to front apart from Dooley. I thought he was very poor and never really got going at any point.
Was good to watch and the possession stats where fantastic. Nice to see us playing with such confidence at home and playing easy on the eye football.
Last season we probably lose that game 3-1 after falling apart at the back.
Rather Pyke need to play in the middle or we need another striker who can score some goals, because I feel we are completely relying on Hendo for all of them.

BBM said in his interview the Rathbone was touch and go from the bad challenge that forced him off last week. Obviously not quite right yet and the right back is still injured from pre-season

Stupid thing to do and had no business getting involved in the situation.
I did notice what he did as it happened live and hoped the ref didn't see it, but it would seem the powers that be have spotted it too.

Ist of the season Match Thread!
at 17:35 3 Aug 2019

Was great to see a keeper come and get the ball confidently and be a big presence in the box. Made some smart saves through the game when needed and he’s pretty good with his feet.
After watching him today I have no problems with signing him and him being first choice keeper. He could be the difference between taking points from games and not. His accurate distribution may even sneak us a few goals on the counter this season.
Left back was absolutely stand out performer for me today! Gets forward well and crosses dangerous balls in the area. Also a nice tidy finish when the ball came to him. He looked pretty solid defensively too, cleverly playing it off their lad for a throw a few times.
Some great passing that built up to the goals as well.
Gonna be buzzing the rest of the day over here after that result.

Oldham sign David Wheater

Can’t help but wonder how they go about signing an experienced centre back in league two and we still haven’t addressed our defensive issues.
Surely he could have done a decent job at the back along side O’Connell for us. Probably chip in with a few goals a season from set pieces too.
Personally feel like this is the exact kind of player and experience we needed, especially in those times when you just need to shut the door and see games out.

Southend Coaches
at 04:27 24 Apr 2019

Just seen on Twitter that southend are putting on free coaches for Saturday’s game to try and get as many fans as possible there to get behind the team.
Fair play to them and clearly viewing it as a must get a result against us game.
Stephen Humphrys trying to drum up support on twitter and get the fans to travel up north for the game.

Interview after the game
at 17:56 24 Feb 2019

Sounds pretty much resigned to being relegated this season and doesn’t sound too optimistic about the quality of players in the squad. Sounded to me like he doesn’t think the players are anywhere near good enough to stay up in this league.

Just truly awful!!
5-1
Id be happy if 90% of this team wasn’t here next season. The only quality in the team is a player that isn’t even ours.
Depressing watching this team.

We really are the master of our own downfall.
Get back in the game after a shocking first half and look good going forward.
Go and get a man sent off for a stupid handball, then go and let one in straight away.
What a dogshit team!

Only reason it’s not 4-0 at h/t is our goal keeper.
Dale woeful in that first half.
Hopefully these two subs change the outcome of the second half.

Watching our Tuesday night opponents on the TV over here against Millwall in the cup.
Hopefully they’re knackered Tuesday after the level of pressure they’re trying to put on millwall in this game.

Yes much worse!
We could have completely caved after conceding like we have all season, but today we showed some resilience and much needed fight.
The new players in on loan have improved the team.

Still got a lot of work to do but that was a much better team performance that we’ve put in for months. Ebanks-Landell is a sure starter next game looked solid and an aerial threat.
Hamilton is a quality player on the ball and a decent goal on his debut too.
We desperately need a goal scorer up top to start turning all these chances we created today into goal.
Their keeper made some good saves.
Our defence still looks fragile at times especially in the first half.
All in all much happier with the team display even though we lost.
Posh have a lot of quality up front that we could only dream of having.

That team has no gut guts in it whatsoever!
Lightweight and no idea on how to move the ball or break a team down.
Delaney couldn’t find a blue shirt even without any opposition on the field. Done offers nothing to the team at left back, no pace, no threat, can’t defend and goes backwards with every pass when he’s confronted by the opposition.
The young lads clearly aren’t ready yet and that’s very evident in the boys against men displays they put in. It’s not the young lads faults because they are doing their best, but they just aren’t ready for this. We need to be careful of destroying their confidence with keeping them in the lineup every week and sign some decent experienced players to steady this sinking ship.
I never thought Dale would actively plan for relegation and cut their losses in Jan but that’s what it looks like at the minute. Lots of players out and a kid with no experience in.
Bad times at the minute!

What do we need?
at 17:51 2 Jan 2019

Players out:
Cannon (confirmed today).
Hart (confirmed today).
Moore (confirmed today).
Alby (hopefully) absolute waste of money.
Perkins (hopefully) seems to be well past him prime and on a decent amount that could be better used.
Andrew (hopefully) nice guy but he’s just not good enough as a striker. (Touch/ Finishing/ Pace)

Players in: (I’d like to see come in)
LB- with a decent cross.
CM -who gets stuck in and breaks up play / offer protection to the defence.
Winger- who will run at defenders and get them facing the other way. Decent cross required too.
Striker- someone with height, that has the ability to hold the ball up well and feed the likes of hendo. At least a little bit of pace to occasionally get in behind defenders and give them something else to worry about. ( Clive platt type would be perfect)

If we are going to keep Inman it would play him right up top as a striker because on the wing he more than not goes missing, especially if it’s a tough game when he’s required to put a physical shift in. He can finish and he has a yard of pace, so up front may prove fruitful in the goals department.
