We have been difficult to watch on many occasions this year. Really difficult. But as I mentioned previously, BJ stopped the slide. Saw this earlier. Hence my reference to a 'prove it' year. He now has to show he can build on what he's started and that we haven't just got as far as we can under him with no further upside.

But they will take notice of fans voting with their feet. No good trying to fill a bucket if it's leaking faster than you can fill it |

I disagree with proving anything to anyone. I have started reading CD's book recently and he was talking about getting shut of managers in his role of Chairman after the fans have turned against them. As can be seen from several recent threads, the fanbase is largely struggling with the style of football we are trying to play this season. Add to that the head-scratching decisions BJ is making (see 442s 11.40 post in ref/match thread not to mention we could be 3 or 4 down after pissing about at the back again) and it's fair to say that he is a long way from having unanimous approval from the fanbase. In his favour, he has changed the team ethos from apathy last season to togetherness this season and is Dale through and through. He will also have a better budget for recruitment and an opportunity to shape shift the squad again this summer. If he doesn't prove we can play differently depending on circumstances and adapt in-game though, he will have proven he's not the right man for the job. Some have already reached this point already. I'm getting there but not totally convinced just yet. I do not disagree with your PS though. Their gesture is incredibly generous. [Post edited 20 Apr 12:51]

This won't suit everyone, but essentially, the board and manager should now have a "prove it" year with the benefit of additional resources. If things don't improve and we don't progress, then I would hope appropriate actions would be taken by our new owners, but it's way too premature for such discussions at this juncture. All in all, from where we were, this is about as much as we could ever have hoped for in our collective wildest dreams after the stark EGM and where we stood after it. Up the Dale - deffo no longer for sale! [Post edited 19 Apr 17:54]

Thanks for the update Judd. In an age of noise, sometimes 'no news' is good news. Every indication that we may finally be making progress towards the right future trajectory, and in the right way. Brilliant. |

My last detour of the season via Heywood and Norden today (can't make Tuesday). Shocking mess that. I'll be thankful for a new season without roadworks later this year. In that order. |

BDB and James - the 15' applause is already sorted. Not sure if scoreboard will be involved? Could be a distraction, especially if the Charlton goal was featured!

Contains link to Joe's Gofundme page. Edit: funds needed to cover the costs of his ongoing treatment and to pioneer a groundbreaking test that could prevent the recurrence of not only his cancer but potentially save countless lives in the future.

Of all the people in all of the world who don't deserve bad luck like this, Joe's got to be close to the top of that list. The only thing you can hope at this stage, is the strength and willpower his body showed the 1st and 2nd time around can come to the rescue a 3rd time. We're all pulling for you Joe. Good luck. |

Yesterday wasn't uplifting in any way at all. We 'stayed with' a better side (better in almost every aspect), but that side coasted for most of the game. Yet here we still are, approaching what might have been the abyss that we fell into and ceased to exist, but which we now have a means to navigate around. The brakes have been applied to the financial and football freefall giving time to breathe, reflect, analyse and plan. The extent to which 'team SPO' will participate in the future of the club, both financially and operationally, remains to be seen. So talk of which direction we might go managerially and squad-wise is probably premature, but what is 'our level?' Money is of course a large determinant in defining this, but so is attitude. We've seen the no fear football of the KH 'glory days' and we've seen some apathetic, gutless tripe since, which took us down to mid-table non-league football. What I really hope to see going forward is the return of ambition. Not the ambition to buy our way into the PL in 25 years, like Ryan Reynolds took to Wrexham, but an ambition to punch above our weight and become a team that other sides don't want to play. To regularly send crowds away buzzing, not snoozing. We saw glimpses of that this season on odd occasions. We now have to find a way to keep that trajectory going upwards and keep improving. Up the Dale |

Kel - what pattern are you referring to? Are there any posters absent from this thread for example? |

Been away for a couple of days and came back to this - what a bloody relief. Might we finally be out of the woods? If so, Hallelujah. Seems like SG didn't just want to do a deal for his own benefit after all then? This is surely the best opportunity ever to re-engineer RAFC from top to bottom to maximise all our opportunities on and off the field, hopefully emerging stronger and fitter. My sincere thanks to everyone involved with getting this to the point of this statement and hopefully the rescue package we all dared not dream about. Up the Dale with new hope. |
