Noted that home tickets not on sale from Monday due to GMP advice, obvious concern about York fans buying home tickets. (Undesirable but understandable from their side)

Very hard to think of methods to control, but here are some options.

1. Online electronic purchases of tickets allowable to season ticket holders.
Risk: If a season ticket holder buys tickets for York fans. Unlikely but possible

2. Online electronic sale to non season ticket holders who have purchased Dale home tickets previously
Risk. Would have to ensure tickets only up to say today are eligible as evidence. Otherwise Yorkies could buy for Wealdstone game then use that as eligibility.

3. Online postal tickets only purchasable to a postcode close to Rochdale. Limited number of tickets per online purchase
Risk - Odd local Yorkie could purchase

4. In person purchase only permissable with proof of address/id.
Risk - as above, odd local yorkie could purchase.

This would still be an issue for non county St holders who live outside of Rochdale, have never bought a ticket online for a Dale game. These would hopefully be a small number which could be managed on case by case.

It’s a challenge for the club to manage safety of fans for the obvious reason and i know if this was other way around, some would try to get home tickets also.

If it is a decider i hope York do the big screen at their place for those without a ticket.

There really wouldn't be a problem but for the idiocy of restricting the Willbutts to 1500, well below half full

Instead, the club are lumbered with an admin problem, as well as potential issues within the home ends

Which is to preserve our home advantage, which could be needed. We do not want more away fans than home fans.

Disagree

What is the point of the Willbutts then? It was designed to be splittable, was used as such for the playoff against Darlo in 2008

Did it confer any advantage to Leeds, Spurs or Newcastle, who filled it? The one game where it might've had an effect was the FCUM tie in 2010

Allocate at least 2000 away seats and around 1000 home with a block in between

Otherwise just knock it down and put something more useful in place

It may very well be spilt, who knows?

Anyway, the Internet says York will have pissed it by then.

You make a valid point

There's been some good advertising by the club around town, e.g. top of John St. We've seen an increase in home fans, though probably returning regulars

My attitude is this: never show that you're afraid of the challenge. Restricting their numbers sends that exact message. Never mind "f*ck York fans", let them pay their money over to us, then we go out and take them on to acheive whatever outcome we need. The psychology is otherwise one of fear, which is insidious

Others have a different opinion, obviously, but 1500 is enough to make plenty of noise. The logic of leaving empty seats? Why not restrict their numbers to zero, if so unsure how they might affect the outcome

As judd indicated, the restriction may be to enable a couple of Willbutts blocks to be taken up by home fans. Any other reason is an admission of lack of confidence

Home teams have to provide 15% capacity to away fans in the NL. That is the minimum, no maximum.

15% of Spotland = 1.5k roughly. That 15% was central (away from home fans) and high (away from the pitch) v Carlisle - both beneficial from a safety perspective.

The club spoke of the impact of a full Willbutts along the side of the pitch to players versus Oldham last season. They want to negate that too.

Might as well just remove the front 20 rows of seats then, and have done with it

Sandyman's profile pic is testament to taking on the opposition without fear. Tom Kennedy wasn't intimidated...

Jim mentioned more recent games with Oldham where we've lost and that Wilbutts side of the ground has been the loudest side. Even 1500 York fans will be loud if they are winning but probably less intimidating than having 3000 fans in it. They will do what they did with Carlisle too and cordon off the seats next to the pitch which is quite clever - Oldham did the same behind their goal and it looks like the stand is empty even though it isn't.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Really hope people from far afield can buy and not in person or have a local post code.
I'm in Essex and have already booked a hotel for a few nights in anticipation.

Have said previously that I’d object around “we need to ensure we maximise revenue streams and become self sustainable” argument, but if the owners, club and others involved in decision making are weighing that up against other factors, then it’s understandable.

Either way, have always thought the ends of the stand should have been blocked to prevent issues with the Sandy/Pearl St as seen in the past.

If you've bought tickets from Dale before, or even for our away games (Braintree/Southend), you should be OK, if it comes down to that amount of checking.

Maestro? No. Elite? No. Heavyweight poster? No. Able to be rational and not over-react to individual results? Yes.

Thanks TVOS1907.
I have bought a ticket for the Braintree game as I only live 5 miles from their ground.
Have also bought tickets for the odd home games over the years.

I think by simply saying they’ll check purchase history and that fans may be contacted would be enough to put off any significant number of York fans buying. For those Dale fans who haven’t a purchase history, they’ll be happy to give further info.

Anyone else won’t want the hassle and risk losing their money.

Can't the Trust help with this?

Give them tickets to sell to current / previous trust members at ther trust desk on the next home games?

Dale Trust Exiles can book tickets via the phone even if they have not attended a home match this year. List of Exiles provided to the ticket office for cross checking. Thanks to Andy Duff and Dale Trust colleagues for making this possible.

Nearly all the tickets for this game have gone. I only hope that they open up blocks in the Willbuts for home fans. This will generate a great atmosphere, and hopefully push us on to get that all important win over York.

Remarkable if home ends are nearly sold out to Daleys.

Our attendances on promotion days to L1 drew crowds of circa 5.5k i seem to recall, this one will certainly top that and then some.
