Noted that home tickets not on sale from Monday due to GMP advice, obvious concern about York fans buying home tickets. (Undesirable but understandable from their side)

Very hard to think of methods to control, but here are some options.

1. Online electronic purchases of tickets allowable to season ticket holders.
Risk: If a season ticket holder buys tickets for York fans. Unlikely but possible

2. Online electronic sale to non season ticket holders who have purchased Dale home tickets previously
Risk. Would have to ensure tickets only up to say today are eligible as evidence. Otherwise Yorkies could buy for Wealdstone game then use that as eligibility.

3. Online postal tickets only purchasable to a postcode close to Rochdale. Limited number of tickets per online purchase
Risk - Odd local Yorkie could purchase

4. In person purchase only permissable with proof of address/id.
Risk - as above, odd local yorkie could purchase.

This would still be an issue for non county St holders who live outside of Rochdale, have never bought a ticket online for a Dale game. These would hopefully be a small number which could be managed on case by case.

It’s a challenge for the club to manage safety of fans for the obvious reason and i know if this was other way around, some would try to get home tickets also.

If it is a decider i hope York do the big screen at their place for those without a ticket.

What other football club in England voluntarily reduces the number of home fans at a game.

United have 78k every week. I’m sure we can manage!

We never do though do we?? Oldham two seasons ago and Spennymoor last season are two recent examples of how we can't manage a big crowd.

I don't get why we should give up any kind of home advantage for what promises to be a pivitol game in the club's history, if the owners and board are happy to take the hit of a reduced crowd then I'm fully behind that decision.

We aren't - we are reducing the amount of away fans! There will be many more home fans than usual.

I’m not doubting you, but what reasons are there for not allowing 500-1000 extra home fans in there if the demand’s present?

Because the area given to them (as v Carlisle) would need changing before they go on sale, further conversations with the police around where away fans would be situated and the segregation of the stand being totally looked at again.

The issues Clivert raised have had an impact over how much of the stand is used as well.

Could we have given York 2500 and still had those safety measures in place? Probably. But that’s a different decision. Not sure there was ever a way to split the stand unless there was a complete change in safety arrangements- eg the front the rows being netted off.

You were right 442. But a bit disappointing that Project 5,000 is put back because we are going to disappoint some of the rare attenders who now can't come. We've always had an underlying fan base of people who come for big fixtures - we took 17,000 to Wembley. I still don't understand how hard it is to split a stand that was designed to allow it to be split. Its not as though we haven't done it before with a big and vocal away following such as the Darlington play-off game. Have we really decided that the new stewarding company isn't good enough to be able to segregate fans in the National League when we see simple segregation in the Premiership. I have no problem with the club deciding to restrict away fans to the mandatory 15% allocation. But having a block for home fans near the Sandy or the Pearl Street would have been a great option to get people to enjoy coming to watch Dale.

In the 'light' of which, there's the decision by our commercial manager - acknowledged as having been doing a great job, plus his comments cited earlier in the thread - to seek pastures new

No doubt there will be several factors involved, possibly his work here has attracted approaches from elsewhere, but given the opportunity to have six out of the seven Willbutts blocks filled and not taking it up really doesn't help

The arguments put forward how and why the stands will only contain c.1500 continue to sound like excuses. *Proper* stewarding would sort these issues, as happens at the vast majority of clubs

Look at where away fans are located at Anfield for instance, right up against one side of the goal, and that includes the derby with Everton, or Man U, etc. Are the Liverpool players intimidated when taking a corner there? It's all just self-imposed limitations by Dale. Even if the police make certain conditions, better stewarding would enable them to be overcome, given the will to do so

I wish Andy Duff every success going forward, we'll miss his "can do" attitude

It is disappointing but I think the only two times it’s been done with a big away following is that Darlington game and Fulham in 2001.

On both occasions the away fans were housed in the end nearest the Sandy. In recent years we have had issues in the stadium. Yes, we can look at how that has been managed by stewards, but fan behaviour at the Oldham and Spennymoor games has left a lot to be desired.

If Dale fans want bigger crowds in the future, they can assist with this by ensuring there are no further incidents in and around the ground so the club can plan knowing they won’t have to be concerned about any trouble.

There were home fans in the Willbutts v Spennymoor too. Issues have always been in Pearl St corner, not with splitting the stand. Disappointing that we have 2000 seats sitting empty & thousands wanting tickets.

Going forwards I’d take out the front 2 rows of seats in the 4 blocks nearest the Sandy & the end 2 rows of seats, put a permanent segregation barrier in & move the family stand & community section in the 2 blocks nearest Pearl St. Then I’d add rail seating in U block & carry on the growth of Pearl St into a proper home end.

Were there?! My memory of more recent games is often worse than years ago! Either that or I try to forget the Spennymoor game completely (worth giving a try).

There have been issues at the Sandy end though, especially when the younger element of our support was at that end. Of course that’s changed now so with areas blocked off it should be fine.

Your idea about moving the family stand to the Willbutts is a cracking idea as any suggestions to move away fans to other stands just won’t work.

Yeah not many in the end but we opened up a couple of blocks for it, like you say best to forget it though!

I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that happen as the club have implied with Studds & the removal of Desmond’s Den that it’s probably not the best place for a family stand.

Blocks G and Z sold out for Morecambe, is that where all the York fans got their "purchase history" tickets?

The club has invited grassroots football teams to this game, and Block G is one that has been allocated for this match. Fear not, there won't be York fans in there.

No idea pal, that's one for the club to answer. Maybe the club thought the logistics/policing of it, wouldn't be worth the hassle. I'd imagine, in hindsight though, they wish they did now, seeing how fast we sold out. One to consider for the future maybe...

Has the speed at which it sold out been questioned at all i wonder? This from a mate who know several fans of our opponents

'I understand from my York based contacts that they have purchased a substantial amount of tickets in the home end for the last match of the season. Might need your tin hat on'.

I hope we have stewarding and policing commensurate with the worst case scenario. The last thing we want or need is another black day in our history associated with a big tie and possible decider. Our 'vetting' appears to not have been as thorough as it might have been?

We will only know if the vetting has been as thorough as it might have been on the day.

I would guess there'll be very few if any York fans in the home end. You couldn't buy a ticket unless you had bought one already, and York fans wouldn't have known that prior to tickets going on sale, then it would've been too late. I think people are worrying over nothing.

This has already been answered. Look at the Carlisle game. 1500 away fans seated in the top half of the stand. The bottom rows are netted off for safety (to keep York fans away from pitchside). The end block nearest the Pearl St has the Joe Thompson flag and other flags. The end block near the Sandy also has flags on the seats and isn't used for segregation reasons too. There is no room for extra Dale fans.

I know that, but it would've been possible and is possible to do. Was never going to happen for this game, but could, and should be done in the future if the need arises.

Question is how? This is something club should address.
Would some York fans have had enough foresight to purchase tickets for other matches before the prior purchase stipulation was announced?

It would have required a substantial amount of York fans to have predicted the reduced capacity in Wilbutts Lane and then to have also predicted a purchase history would be required for a ticket in the home stands

Aye, I didn't mean your post was nonsense, but more what you were told.

The club's ticket manager will have been all over this. Without a previous buying history this season, they won't have been able to get a ticket and in my opinion, any claims to the contrary are just 'Billy Big Time' bluster.
