It may well be a landslide in terms of the number of seats they win, but probably not in terms of the percentage of the electorate who vote for them. So they will have a mandate to govern and won't, at the same time. Its not going to be easy.

Nearest pub to where you live
at 09:10 2 Jun 2024

I'm lucky, the small town I live in still has 9 pubs, you pay between £3 - £4 a pint. The closest is 5 minutes away, the beer garden (a patch of concrete, our pubs are pretty basic in the main) backs on to the tt course. The brewery closed it down a couple of years ago, but a same-sex couple leased it off them, have reopened it as a freehouse, the new decor is, shall we say, bright, but it was great to see it absolutely heaving yesterday, the first day of this year's racing. Power to them!
I tend to walk to the Quay side, 10 minutes away if that, there's 4 pubs along it, on a nice day grab a pint, cross the road and sit in the sun by the boats. The Traf along there is my regular haunt, a camra finalist for pub of the year last year.

Life changing moments
at 09:25 1 Jun 2024

OK, this may come across as playing to the crowd, but in my teens I was squatting, doing more and more drugs, squats getting dingier and dingier, but I got out of it....on an hourly basis....no I broke the cycle because I wanted to do something, and with the help of mates. And what I wanted to do is watch Rangers.
I was also forced to work on the community programme, which at the time, for me, was the WORST THING EVER, but which led to me getting a proper job, a bedsit, away games and a season ticket.
A life lesson...you're not going to break the cycle unless you want to. My drugs and squatting mate died in his teens, RIP Dave.

Well, Mone is big news over here, she, and all the others who ripped off tax payers to cash in on covid should be thrown in prison, as far as I'm concerned.
We have a state run water company, and shit is still going directly into the sea.
I heard an interesting interview with an American author who has written a book on the working class experience in America, and she found that in that class there wasn't a huge hatred of billionaires, as they were seen as job creators, among other reasons.
I suppose, where I live, I not only see but also endure the behaviour of little shits who contribute nothing - twice in a week not long ago I went out and confronted people about what they are doing, I'm being avoided now but my van has a nice new scratch.
But yeah, I would love to see a clamp down at both ends of the 'taking the piss' spectrum..
UBI would, in my opinion, take a big step in making work profitable again. My wife is a care worker - what they are paid compared to what they contribute is a disgrace.
UBI would also enable people to take a bit of time out to train up or re-train. My wife recently tried to gain access to a beginners course in computers. She was told she couldn't, because she wasn't unemployed. She fought that, and gained access. Two other people were on the course. Wtaf.
Anyway, I should probably stay clear of this thread now as well! Announce Jordan Rhodes....

Did I say that? There has never been a time I would vote for that party - possibly, I suppose, a candidate who I thought was good, but that's doubtful.

Mate, if you know how to play the system, there are work-arounds.

However....if I look at care work, local authorities are duty-bound to provide a service and , for all their profligacy, do not have the funds to pay care workers well, so you can understand why they use new migrants to do that work.
The migrant issue is huge, it's complex, and we aren't a serious country anymore, and we don't have serious politicians.

I live on a council estate, and I see a fair bit of it, really pisses me off. At the moment I'm off with a knee injury, self-employed and so get sweet fa in terms of sick benefit, have a big tax/ni bill hanging over me, and yesterday my neighbours were on the piss, no worries, nothing to contribute.....😠

Yeah, my initial reaction was 'how very dare they', but then I considered this point. It might lead to smaller teams getting a bit more tv coverage and a few extra ££, but on reflection they'll probably televise Everton v Bournemouth etc

If you look at how many of the new migrants actually work within the public services, its fair to say that you could pledge to cut migration hugely and still maintain the level of service.

It's all so unfair, though. When Sinclair is seen eating a burger, we're told his innate hunger is to be denigrated.

Sorry, but referendums are by nature populist, and giving people what they vote for has no place in a democracy....
