Time to finish with the Dunne experiment?
at 10:09 15 Apr 2024

Agreed about the set piece impact, but we've stopped utilising him as an out ball in both the Plymouth and Hull games. If he plays then we have to have Paal on the left to give us a better balance / more attacking outlet.

On a separate note, Willock on the left with Chair as the 10 worked much better in the 2nd half. I've never understood why we haven't re-implemented this since Willock has re-emerged as a player again. Think back to the Beale September and those beautiful triangles they and Paal used to form. When they've been on the pitch they have been physically miles apart which is weird when they play so well together.

Yeah - thought Cannon looked good - much more athletic.

Time to finish with the Dunne experiment?
at 18:07 14 Apr 2024

Was there yesterday and I’m afraid Marti got that one wrong 4 centre backs a la Swansea was horribly wrong. They were so mobile and tiny and there weren’t really any crosses to deal with. Desperately needed mobile full backs to close the gaps out wide and get up the pitch to pen them back.
We’ve also stopped utilising the advantages of having Dunne as an outlet at right back and it totally nullified him. Think back to the successes at Blackburn, West Brom, it was all about pushing Jimmy high and winning the knock down against smaller weaker wingers and full backs. We didn’t do that once yesterday.

Hull City Roll call
at 17:21 12 Apr 2024

I'll be there, live in Leeds but the company I work for are based in Hull.
Pubs-wise probably counter-intuitive but the best ones are in the Old Town around the Minster - The Head of Steam being my favourite, but they are all proper pubs. Probably don't need telling but avoid the Whetherspoons at all costs.

We lost one of our longest standing true supporters on Tuesday
at 23:21 28 Mar 2024

As one f the QPR supporters in the wider Wareham family, I can attest to the wonderful servitude my Uncle Tommy gave to the club. He was like a father to my own Dad and I probably wouldn’t have the passion and love for the club that we all collectively have without him.
I will always cherish being taken to watch the team in the mid-eighties as an impressionable 10 year old and would happily drop by V block in Ellerslie Road whenever I had a ticket there in later years (my season ticket was in the Upper Loft so this was more difficult on a regular basis) to have a catch up and discuss the finer points of the game at that point.
He was a wonderful QPR man and will be sorely missed.
RIP Uncle Tommy.

So go on - that ref yesterday
at 16:46 18 Feb 2024

I thought the first one was really odd as well. Bell pulls up with an obvious hamstring pull, Andersen is away and down the line and the ref stops it - why? Would genuinely like to know.

The Wednesday on Saturday Match Thread
at 21:00 16 Dec 2023

Was there today and most of the observations are accurate. Kakay is an absolute liability, I coach U14s and would be pissed off he any of them had cleared it backwards like that and then in the big pressure moment to put us 2-1 up he can”t even hit the target - disgraceful.

That said I said at half time I would be surprised if Wednesday were to score as they were absolutely shocking. The main problem today was second balls - we barely won any and we let Bannan dictate everything again as per usual.
We played some neat stuff on occasions but not enough, Chair didn’t see enough of the ball 2nd half and we didn’t take our chances when they came (a familiar story).
Field simply has to score in that position.
Dunne got dragged out of position when there was no need, got rolled again (we’ve seen that before) and combined with Kakay being nowhere meant their goal was simplicity personified.
It was basically typical QPR - no matter which team or season.
V disappointed.

People being really disingenuous about this. That is an absolutely brilliant cross and a hell of a finish. Suspect we would be saying very different things if we had scored it.

Bit more from the interview in Austria, pre-season - as eloquent as ever.

That’s me in the photo with him.
Still can’t get my head around the fact we grew up together, used to stand in The Loft together and now he’s the actual Assistant Manager of our team. It’s bonkers!!

Armstrong - serious question

I’m as enamoured as most with our ‘beast’, but has anyone ever seen him actually head a ball? Seems to be a serious facet missing from his game.

Reminded me of one of my favourite photos (there was a great thread on this a few weeks ago), Ray Wilkins' diving header against Spurs in October 1992. It was the centrefold of the following weeks programme - vs Leeds (what a great two games they were by the way). Just went in to the garage to dig it out:

There's me and Dobbo mouths gawping at Super Ray actually scoring a diving header (I'm in the red coat, classic 90's curtains) :-)

That was me.
Suspect having been at Wycombe for so long, at least 15 years Wycombe are much closer to his heart than Rangers. We did however grow up watching Rangers together and he did have a season ticket in the Upper Loft where we watched his brother playing for Brentford against us a couple of times.
After he did his cruciate (twice) he had to give up playing, went in to coaching working with youth teams and progressed to become GA’s right hand man. Is really your Mick Beale coaching equivalent, highly qualified, progressive and intelligent.

Richard was my best friend at school and a Rangers fan to boot. We used to stand in The Loft watching Sir Les smashing them in as teenagers and then had season tickets in the Upper Loft when we were back in Div 1. Top lad. Not sure how I feel about him potentially living the dream of actually managing our team - can’t get my head around it!

There's a great one of Super Ray's header at the Loft end when we beat Spurs 4-1 in the rain. Also love that one of Sinclair Armstrong when Seny scores against Sunderland.
Don't know how to find them though :(

Amazing run though it was, Laird's shot that hits the defender was heading more towards the corner post than the back of the net. It's a shame as these rampaging runs of his deserve more than he's been getting this season.
Another astounding report Clive - I continue to be in awe - every week.
