Thought Ghana did a great job. They set out to park the bus and catch us on the break and it almost worked.
There's a lot of talk about "should it have been a penalty?" Dunno but as Eze was clearly fouled at the start of the move, "Why weren't England given a free kick, left hand side attacking?" would be a more pertinent question.
BUT another thing, The incident when Pickford came to meet their onrushing No 25 and looked for all the world to have obstructed and brought him down, what can I say? That could so easily have been a free kick to Ghana (Alan Shearer thought so) and if had been, would the ref had to have sent Pickford off as their striker was otherwise clean through on goal? Did the ref bottle it? What do you think? |

Now that the dust is beginning to settle I thought I would add this:
The events of last Saturday made me realise that Supprting The Dale pearhaps means a little bit more to me than I had thought.
It has often been said that teams or players learn more in defeat than in victory but can that also be true of supporters?
In this case, I think it can.
Whatever happens in the playoffs, I'm now looking forward to taking in a couple of games early next season in whichever division.
I've got a feeling, it's going to be an exciting ride, especially of we can keep Jim.

Supporting Rochdale has been described as "the triumph of hope over experience". And many of us will see that clearly, especially the long standing Daleys among us.
So whenever I go to Spotland (COA) its usually with more hope than expectation.
But I can't remember being so affected by the outcome of any sport fixture since childhood. When the equalizer was awarded I just had to get out of the immediate place from where I was watching, find a space and just sit for a couple of minutes. I know I was not the only one.
Had we lost two or three nil I would have probably thought. OK fair result. That's the way it goes. Or had it been 1-1- at half time and finished that way. But the WAY it happened!
Group hugs to all Dale supporters everywhere. Time to pick ourselves up for the playoffs and the rest of life, the universe and everything.

Various criticisms on this thread bur let's not forget, we had the ball in the net 5 times albeit that 3 of them were given offside.
Just 2 more wins needed, never mind how we get 'em.

What a finish. It was looking like curtains for our league title bid but.... suddenly I was surrounded by old men doing their nuts (Pearl Street End).
What matters is that for now at least, we're still in the race. |

I'm reminded of the April curse under K Hill,
Let's hope it doesn't bite us again.
