Blue Cards anyone? 21:59 - Feb 8 with 358 viewsdurham_exile

Due to be trialled at Non league level and in some EFL games.

Sin bin for 10 minutes.

Could lead to more hamstring injuries and muscle problems. I am undecided on this sanction.

Singing have worked well in Rugby so can't see wouldn't work in football. Far better than a player being sent off for relatively minor offences.

How does it work if no fourth official (as in lower league)?

How is the timing of (ten minute) sin-binning to be managed?

If an injury then results in a three minute delay, will the sin-bin penalty only be (in effect) seven minutes, or will football require a transparent ‘time on/time off’ process like Rugby?

I can see huge implications for those officiating matches. Simply determining who is responsible for the sin-bin stop-watch is a challenge. I can’t see it being practical below the seventh tier.

A ridiculous idea - the football authorities are destroying the game.

Leave it as it is

I suppose they could sing for 10 minutes on touch line!

Let’s try it and try and eradicate deliberately pushing, tripped, grabbing, influencing the referee histrionics, which all lead to the supporters not getting full value for your money.
Players are taking the p%ss and liberties with the rules, taking things to the limit too often.
Sin bin can managed by the fourth official down to fifth tier level.

Just use the existing yellow card as a 10 minute absence from the game. Don't need any further cards.
A further yellow card on return equals red..simples!

Crazy idea. It's just a license for players/ clubs to exploit the system with spoiler tactics and/or dissent, sacrificing one player at a time for ten minutes whilst the rest park the bus and run down the clock. It is also, as the point has already been made, a recipe for players to pick up all sorts of muscle and tendon injuries going 'cold' for ten minutes, and then trying to go full pelt as soon as they come back on (when they could be soaking in a nice hot bath without the rest of the sweaty oiks piling in). Why not just issue the second yellow card that their actions deserve and send them off for the rest of the match?

The underlying issue is refereeing inconsistency. We all know there are good ones and bad ones, though often a very subjective opinion based on one game. Match stats these days track every single nuance of a players performance on the pitch. Why can't the match officials be subject to the same detailed PUBLIC analysis - good calls, bad calls, apparent leniency etc? If an official is getting it wrong too many times, drop them.
