What a game! Well done to them, looked like it had slipped away but they kept going and got it in the end. Fingers crossed for a good draw for them and the other home nations - would be fantastic to see them there with us next year!

As somebody who lives in Dublin and is very aware of how anti-UK the Irish generally are (however good-natured), I would love to see them fall flat on their face in the play offs.

How are we all with the penalty award? Am I missing something? Doesn't the fouled player need to be in the box or has the ref got it right?

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

As Frankie Valli didn't say, "oh what a night. Mid-November back in '25."
Never seen a game like that. Real rollercoaster, every emotion at Hampden tonight.

Another example of VAR confusing the rules! The forward needs to be in the box or on the line before a penalty can be awarded. When will the inconsistency end?

On this occasion it contributed to the excitement rather than dulling the game down. However Scotland were a bit fortunate with the earlier Hoyland disallowed goal.

So who will they be embarrassed by this time...cape verde or curacao?

It would be nice to see them perform well at a tournament for once.

Apparently the fact that Robertson was standing on the line was sufficient for a penalty to be awarded.
Yes, I know.........

So a penalty can be awarded for a foul, irrespective of if the person being fouled is in the penalty box? If the person commiting the foul is in his own penalty area at the time then it's a penalty. That's how i viewed the Denmark penalty and is was backed up by the video evidence and still photograph. The attacker wasn't in the area or standing on the line. That's a decision that could have very easily cost Scotland a olace in the World Cup Finals. Matchday officials and VAR all consulting with each other and there's still confusion.

It’s nonsensical re: pen.

Contact was outside the box, therefore should be a foul not a pen but given because his feet were in the box (on the line is in the box)

If flipped the other way and Robertson’s feet was physically outside of the box, but his knee was inside the box to bring down the striker, then by the same rules it would be a free-kick not a pen which again, would be wrong and in reality, would not have happened.

The thing about VAR is the initial intention was to overrule a clear and obvious error. Since then, "mission creep" has made it into an object of ridicule. We really shouldn't be hearing from the ref over the stadium tannoy

But all is not lost...
