Gareth Southgate Could Take A Leaf Out Of Ralph Hasenhuttl's Book ! 16th Nov 2020 10:25
When Gareth Southgate took over as manager of the England side 4 years ago, it looked a breath of fresh air but somewhere along the line he lost the way, perhaps he should look to the way that Ralph Hasenhuttl has build his Southampton squad as a blueprint if he is to stay as England manager. 8

One of the first things that Southgate did was ship Vardy out, who then retired from international football. He would have been the perfect person to play in the absence of Rashford and Sterling given the plodding approach the team took against Belgium. Ironically, England played like a Martinez team, plenty of fancy passing about, but a shaky defence and mostly, not much of a result. He must be wetting himself with the quality he has got for the Belgium team to overcome his managerial deficiencies.

What an absolutely brilliant article Nick showing what a great manager Hassenhutl is. Here are some facts though.

8-6-10 First season

15 7 16 Second season : incl results below
Burnley 3 Soton 0
Soton 1 Spurs 4
Soton 1 Chelsea 4
Soton 0 Leicester 9
Liverpool 4 Soton 0

5 1 2 Third season inc Spurs result below
Soton 2 Spurs 5

Hassenhutl overall resutls
70 28-14-28 40% win 1.4 PPG

Lets just say Soton are one of the top 8-14 teams in the PL, therefore comparisons with England can be justified. Lets look at Southgate's results in his tenure

49 29-10-10 59% win 1.98 PPG

The worst results have been two 2-0 defeats to Belgium, the top ranked nation in the world. In that time, he has also blooded several youngsters in his team, which is rather different from what Ralph the Brilliant has done.

It would appear from the brief info provided here, that Ralp the Brilliant could learn a lot from Gareth the Failure, and I mean quite a lot, in fact a huge amount.

I think we would all agree that England rarely play a team in International football that would be competitive in the Premier League, Iceland, Ireland and Wales, Kosovo & Montenegro get the stats up there but are hardly up to the standard of most Premier League sides.

Good to see you know our results so well, I am surprised that you did not compare Hasenhuttl to Bob Jackson, I can here a collective "Who ???????" I'll let you explain so you can dig a further hole with your obsession

Just to point out that Southgate can pick from the creme de la creme of English players, RH cannot, the best he can get is cafe creme every now and again.

The point is that England aren't losing by 3,4,5 or 9 goals to the top teams, they only lose by the odd goal, or by 2 goals to the top team in the world.

That comparison is worth noting, and the fact that Southgate has been blooding youngsters at the same time. He has done well.

But to be successful with less quality resource requires taking more risks, and sooner or later, you will get punished. I'd rather have those results with RH than marginal losses with Mark Hughes for example.

Just to point out that Southgate can't pick the cream, because there isn't that much, compared to say Martinez with Belgium.

Soton may have 2 or 3 of the top100 players in the PL?

England certainly don't have much more if any more than that, with Kane the outstanding player, and possibly one of the top 20 players in the world.

The situation is very similar, but Southgate isn't getting regularly thrashed by the opposition.

"Soton may have 2 or 3 of the top players in the PL?"

Hahaha. If that was true, then we'd have players with many more England/international caps than we have.

Omitted the '100', and I think that estimate is about right.

Ings, JWP, both in top 10 this season and a few more in the top 20. How are Pompey doing? Just out of the play offs in league 1? What a shower of sh!t

Prowse, top 10 English player? He's just having a purple patch. Maybe he is looking for a move?
