A couple of frustrations 16:25 - Oct 24 with 1031 viewssaint901

I was at the Arsenal game and enjoyed it very much but a couple of frustrations.

First, throw ins. We seem incapable of throwing the ball to our own players but when the opposition has a throw we allow them to have time and space.

Second, there are many instances where the ball goes dead, throw in, free kick, etc and the whole team switches off. There seems to be an insistence on set plays and doing the things that were practiced on the training pitch, rather than watching what is going on.

An example.

We had a throw in on the left side, level with the penalty area.

Perraud had the ball and was waiting for Salisu to arrive. Because Salisu arrived and was not marked, Perraud threw the ball to his feet. Cue panic. Clearly the plan was for Salisu to take the throw but now he can pass it, cross it, even have a shot. But instead he passed it the Arsenal full back.

Frustrating.

Totally agree about throw-ins and it does my head in. As you say, when we have a throw we dither, nobody shows for the ball and we invariably give it away. Conversely, when the opposition has a throw we are very lax with our marking and allow them to find a man with ease. This sort of thing is easy to resolve in training so I don't get why Ralph and the coaches do nothing about it. Small incremental margins count a lot!

When we have taken a quick throw in the past, we nearly scored from it, but this was like once in the last couple of seasons. Does my nut in. I scream like girl to take it quick even when I watch on TV but nobody listens

keep the faith coyr
