As Nick says, we need a strong, EXPERIENCED manager who can tell the players "I have won titles as a player and manager. I know what I'm doing". Carrick won titles with Man U, but not as a manager but has "successful" recent championship experience as well as having been a winner as a player.
Gerrard won titles as a player and a manager, having worked under some great managers. He won the title as manager of Rangers.
