Comment | What Was Your First Ever Saints Game ?

First game was 30 October 1982, two days after my 9th birthday. We were home to Everton and almost took the lead after about two mins but Alan Ball knocked the penalty wide. Turns out that Keith Cassells scofred the first ever Saints goal I saw and then Steve Moran (my hero!) scored a penalty. Everton pulled it back to 2-2 but Danny Wallace scored a winner. Main thing I remember is everyone booing John Bailey (I joined in but didn't know why he was booed until years later) and a bloodied Everton fan asking my mum if he wouldlike him to escort her, my brother and me to the station. Again, I only realised years later why she gave him short thrist. |

Good stuff. I remember most of them and there were some great games. Another one was in 0203. 1-1 draw doesn't sound too promising but Saints & Newcastle played one of the finest, evenly matched games I have ever seen.Think WGS & Sir Bobby Robson both said similar afterwards. |

I went to that Everton game, on the coach back (Eastside Travel if you remember them?) the radio had news of a managerial casualty at Goodison Park. We all expected that branfoot had finally gone but it turned out to be Kendall.
My then girlfriend also got hammered on cheao cider that day. Dave beasent took the piss out of her at the services. I expect she was drunk at the thought of seeing Colin Cramb. |
