Koeman Situation Nearing Conclusion ! But What Will It Be ?
at 13:37:42

Can someone remind me the actual moment Ronald Koeman said he was leaving us to go to Everton?

Ah ok.

So shall we just wait to get nasty about him - when we know for sure that he's going.

Nothing official has been said anywhere. It's all gone on so long that something clearly isn't right. All will be revealed...

Central Defenders Required ! Experience Neccessary

Toussaint that's a very good call. Left footed too, and he gets forward. Very versatile and not expensive. Wonder if he's already on our radar as he suits our profile.

Lovren Admits He Has Not Found The Same Happiness At Anfield As He Had At St Mary's
at 17:18:14

Presume nobody here has ever left a job for another one that pays more? No?

I can't see the hatred. We don't know that he was malicious or unprofessional when he went to Liverpool. And whilst he made comments in the media that encouraged the deal to progress, it's not that bad. They say no player is bigger than the club. So why should the club be bigger than this guy's life?

We won't find another Matt Le Tis again. We need to accept these kids move for more money. That's the same as any other industry.

I'd have him back. He and Jose were great together. We need to stop hating him though and just move on...

Saints Have To Move On
at 08:33:47

Totally true in every aspect nick. We're finally becoming a bigger club. And so we have to compete with the bigger clubs. And when we compete we might lose out.

I think he is a massive loss. But there are others. And they get to play with Jose. Personally I was nervous about Jose when we first got promoted, but he proved that (with Lovren and then Toby) he can be a class act.

Ronald Koeman is one of the most respected European managers - and as one of the world's greatest defenders - will inspire another Toby to our back line.

Our recruitment guys proved last season and the season before that they can come up with creative ways to attract top defenders to the club. There will be more Tobys and Dejans. More nathaniels and Ryans. We just need to be patient and trust our club to do what they keep doing.

I'm excited. I know we'll recruit another top defender. And hopefully it'll be a nice surprise when it happens.

Could Adam Lallana Return To Southampton ?

Come on. His wages mean he will stay at Liverpool. We won't match his wages so he won't come back.

Ryan Bertrand Now A Permanent Saints Player
at 23:49:28

Bertrand is quality. Shame about his behaviour at the end of the game on Sunday.
He is easily as good as Shaw and won't be tempted away for a while. As he, jose, Maya and hopefully Toby (if we sign him) can create a stable back 4 across a couple of seasons. This is a very smart move for our club. If we can keep Clyne we look like keeping and developing that awesome back line. We could go into next season with the majority of our defence and midfield intact. That would make next season truly exciting.

Mane Could Be Back For Swansea Game
at 22:41:24

Brilliant. It shows how far the lad has come. Before his excellent run of form and his injury many of us weren't convinced about him.
Now his return feels like we have real firepower.
Would be keen to see if he and Elia can link up. That would be a pacey pair.

Schneiderlin Out But Cork Fit

The Daily Mail - of all the press - has us as being top 4 after the next 8 games. The first of their predictions is us drawing against Arsenal. For once I hope the Mail is right....

Saints Fans Have To Get Used To Speculation
at 14:50:59

Thank God for you sometimes Nick. I actually allowed myself to start getting angry, scrolling newsnow and letting my heart rate rise.

This article makes perfect sense. The head of recruitment nonsense comes on the back of the Pavillion video. Ashton has grabbed ahold. It probably has no basis. And if it does, Mitchell is the head of recruitment, not 'recruitment'. I'm sure we wouldn't collapse if he went.

Jay is injured. Not a sprained ankle. He has an injury that limits and ruins careers. Why would a club, even as stupid as Spurs, be considering a£20m offer. He's not game fit, he hasn't scored a goal since the spring. The press are getting desperate.

Reference Toby. Why would Athletico suddenly want him to break the terms of the loan agreement? Doesn't make any sense. This is tosh. Plus he seems happy.

Presumably now that Fonte is playing for his country, Liverpool will see him as an ideal replacement for Lovren. No doubt Tadic at Man Utd is a 'done deal'. Oh and Jack Cork is apparently keen on Palace. Again.

When these articles appear, it would be wise for us to scroll down and look at the profile of the 'journalist'. Most are children who are replicating the original cr*p written by the daily mail- giving us the impression that multiple reports = credibility to the story.

Yawn.

Media Say Toby Alderweireld Is A Saint

This would make a better back line than the one we started with last season. And both Fonte and Yoshida have improved. This really keeps us moving forward. If true....

A Signing A Signing My Kingdom For A Signing
at 13:05:38

I worry about our defence. In our first season back in the prem, Jose was not good at all - linking up with Maya and Jos very badly. He was a regular in one of the leakiest defences. The difference last season was Lovren. Love him or hate him, Lovren brought immediate order to our defence and got Jose playing intelligent football. Losing Lovren is therefore like losing 2 players, because Fonte will be under-supported with Maya.

Its a worrying situation. This Romanian looks good, but how quickly will he adapt to the league? I think we need to accept that Sunday will be very hard and we'll get opened up by their midfield and forwards. Our saving grace is that we have an easy run after Liverpool where the team might gel.

Crunch Time And Something Has To Change
at 14:26:23

Good article. I enjoy your commentary and I think you have a very good point; MoPo should be feeling the pressure and this is the turning point. Simple fact is that a good run puts us straight back into contention, whereas a further bad spell pushes us down and we're suddenly talking about next season.
I always wonder how shrewd Nicola is and whether he would pull the plug on MoPo - but surely he believes in the bigger picture more than any and sees that we need consistency.
How quick we've seen our fortunes change and suddenly find ourselves getting nervous.
Its clear that our problems lie with our defense and there is no doubt that we are still vulnerable in depth - a few games without the lovren/fonte master centre backs and we find ourselves with a similar back four to the one we started with last season. Its clear that we need a solution. Putting pressure on Luke is not wise as he is young and perhaps shouldn't be playing every game. So I'd like to see an intelligent loan signing or even a few quid spent on a perm cover for the 2 centre backs. Astori is back in some of the rumours and, although we're a little stayed on bringing in serie a players, I can't see that kind of signing doing us any harm.
We must also remember that our manager lives and breathes a defensive system that is universally brilliant. You'd be hard pushed to question whether it works - so it's therefore down to the players he has in that system and Jos and Yosh aren't good enough. Lets bring in some cover and we'll see the machine start to work again. The rest of the squad has enough depth.
