Nail on head again Southamptonfan. My Opinion :- Sports Republic didn’t want to pay the money. Then again why would they, having previously told us that they can’t compete in The Premiership Football success is not on their agenda, only an ability to be able to run a successful Player Trading Business with additional revenue from satellite Hospitality venues at St Mary’s. The days of our owners and us supporters singing from the same hymn sheet are over, simply because their’s and our’s objectives are currently incompatible. Will it change any time soon? Don’t hold your breath I’m afraid. |

Don’t get a lot of crosses and corners in the treatment room at Staplewood unfortunately. |

It’s probably because those who own and run Sheffield Utd and Norwich still see themselves as primarily a Football Club rather than a Player Trading Business with a Fun Fair attached. No point whatsoever in employing a manager who doesn’t fit the business model it would just cause untold problems, don’t you know. [Post edited 2 Jan 9:07]

 | Forum Thread | Memo to Tonda :-Your Job is to win matches, not to rotate squads. at 07:31 2 Jan 2026
Five games over the Christmas period producing just three points. Yes, I expect that this morning the players will all be happy because they have each had game time and are not over stretched. I’m equally sure they are all looking forward to the next opportunity of obtaining three points. Far better to have “ gone for it “ and consistently played your best team ( if you know it ) from the outset, got a couple of wins and perhaps a draw by filling in the gaps when players receive knocks and minor injuries. Tonda. It’s a result driven business and not about being the players best friend. [Post edited 2 Jan 8:40]

Here we go yet again:- Team selection that nobody other than the manager can understand. Best player dropped. Bazunu keeps his place. Playing three centre backs once more. I hope I’m proven wrong but it’s beginning to look like the ghost of Will Still lives on. |

Let’s all hope you are wrong 18885 because if your predictions come to fruition the season will be effectively over by the first week of January. To get back on track for the slightest chance of a second half of the season playoff push we need two wins from the next three games absolute minimum. To all those who have travelled this evening, well done and for once I hope the players give you something to make the return journey easier. |

So was I grumps. Fulham came out with all their supposed Super Stars and we turned them over royally. If it weren’t for a very patient referee they could have ended up with nine men. Happy days at a wonderful football ground where none of the opposition liked to play. It was almost as though as a spectator you were on the pitch yourself. I can’t help but wonder whether we would have been better off staying at The Dell. Small crowd capacity hasn’t exactly held Bournemouth and Brentford back has it ? |
 | Forum Reply | Southampton V Oxford The Verdict at 18:40 28 Dec 2025
Well put together opinion Southamptonfan, which no sensible Saints fan could possibly argue with. The penultimate paragraph in particular, which identifies what we need management and intent wise. I’ve posted in Nick’s revue of the Oxford debacle that we also need a proper centre forward, a proper centre half and a proper goal keeper and have done so for season after season. Unfortunately, I don’t believe we will get any of what you and I want with our current Owners and their employees at Sports Republic remaining in control of our club. It’s my belief that the wishes of the majority of the fans and the Owners and Sports Republic are now simply incompatible and fractured beyond repair. We want a competitive football team. It increasingly appears to me that they only want ( and have achieved ) a Player Trading Business and Fun Fair. Unless ownership of our club changes very soon I’m truly beginning to wonder whether the love affair with the Saints for the likes of you and I has nearly reached the end game. |

Bazunu was doing what he’s an absolute expert at, being beaten by a diagonal ball across him low to the ground. It matters not whether it’s from his left or his right, he goes down every time as if he is wearing old fashioned lead deep sea diving boots. He’s a half decent reaction keeper ( then again at professional level they all are ) who can play with his feet. Given time to think about anything and he is just exceptionally poor. Every man and his dog ( except Nick apparently ) can see we need a new keeper but no, this is Sports Republic who won’t replace him, or for that matter buy a decent striker, preferring to hope that sick note Stewart will come good when all the evidence of the last two and a half years proves he won’t. Southamptonfan, you and I were the only ones who said it from day one about Still. I didn’t comment about Tonda, wishing at least to give the fella a chance but it grieves me to say it the doughnuts who own and run the club appear to have made the same mistake again. The only other feasible explanation is that the experienced players at the club are running the club from the dressing room up rather than the other way around.Player power did for Still and I won’t be at all surprised that it will do it for Tonda. As I pointed out when Still was appointed, experienced players ask a new manager when things are going wrong, “ where are your medals ?”. If you have none to show them they quickly revert to their previous easy street comfort zones with losing games being an acceptable result. [Post edited 26 Dec 2025 17:48]

 | Forum Thread | Oxford 2-1 Southampton.Pathetic,utterly and completely pathetic. at 17:16 26 Dec 2025
That’s three away games on the bounce that we’ve thrown points away. Millwall, just about acceptable given their league position. Norwich, you could make a case that all teams miss penalties. But today it was Oxford for pity sake, a team of players nobody has ever heard of and a ground with only three sides. We spent the whole game playing side to side and backwards football and had 70% possession in areas where Oxford just couldn’t have given a damn. When we do manage to get forward, playing stuff from the Russell Martin playbook our forwards confirm (not that any confirmation was necessary) that they simply can’t hit a barn door with a banjo. The new manager clearly hasn’t any clue about tactics or substitutions, once again taking off players who were at least trying and replacing them with no hopers like Archer. To add insult to injury Bazunu gets beaten from a mile out yet again. Commiserations to the fans who made the trip, at least you didn’t have far to travel. |

The world gets ever more difficult to understand. Oxford sack their coach two days before Christmas which must be absolutely wonderful (not) for him and his family at the same time as Bet365 latest annual accounts are released, showing one person ( the owner ) was paid over £200 million in salary and dividends. To Sports Republic credit we are now at least sponsored by a cruise company rather than any hideous gambling organisation. [Post edited 23 Dec 2025 12:20]

Absolutely Heisenberg. It’s unfortunate for him that he’s also inherited a situation where realistically, due to no fault of his own, automatic promotion is almost certainly now out of the question. What was noticeable to me yesterday was how much stronger the Coventry players were both physically and mentally than us. Effectively a man short at half time they gave it everything to hang on to a result. Contrast that with our last two away performances where we folded in both second halves and ended up with nothing. A new manager can dictate tactics and substitutions but at the end of the day his players must “ want it”. That’s why Coventry are walking the league and we are, despite spending £50 million in the last window, merely playoff hopefuls. [Post edited 21 Dec 2025 12:41]

 | Forum Reply | Why Is There So Much Hate On Saints Social Media at 06:07 16 Dec 2025
Nick, I can’t comment about other internet sites because I don’t read or contribute to any of them. I restrict my interest to your site and do so because one of the attractions is that although contributors sometimes have widely differing views on The Saints and a variety of other subjects, there is very little bad mouthing. In reference to football in particular. All that the various sites have achieved is to allow people to do is express their opinions in public where as pre internet the same opinions were being expressed in pubs and clubs.Probably with liberal use of the bad language to which you suggest. Should your site ever become infested with genuine hate as you put it, I suspect that I won’t be alone in disconnecting my interest. Much like the majority of absolutely mind numbing rubbish on T V, power still remains with the user. If you don’t like it turn it off. |

Spot on Grumpy and Grim. Utterly ridiculous expecting Fraser to be involved in any sort of defensive duties. There’s a very good reason he is known as “ the wee man “. |
