I'm pleased to read that Phil.

I've not been feeling too well & had to miss the game watching a stream. Iain left the ground on the final whistle & managed to make the 5.36pm train to Colchester Town. Like you, GA was telling him he couldn't get back to Ipswich till after 9pm, so I got off my hypothetical death bed & picked him up from Marks Tey. Back home a little before our usual time.

I'm sure all of you enjoyed the day.

I've been converted from having little confidence in him to having full confidence in him.

I expect him to make his Australia debut in the next international break.

Injuries
at 21:57 22 Oct 2026

In reply to nix, I will list which clubs I think we should finish above. This is not based on money spent on transfers, but on the quality of the players at the club. Of course, our injuries might change the picture completely.

I'm sure many will disagree with my choices, but I won't be changing my opinion at present whatever arguments are given for or against them, but I'm certain that they will change as the season progresses :-

Preston, Blackburn, Burnley, Bolton, Stoke, Cardiff, Bristol City, Watford, Derby, Lincoln, Charlton, Portsmouth.

I then think we are in competition with Norwich, Millwall, West Bromwich, Sheffield United & Wrexham for the last two play off places.

The teams to finish above us are Southampton, West Ham, Middlesbrough, Swansea, Birmingham & Wolves.

As I say, I base this on what I think is the quality within the Championship squads, irrespective of transfer fees & wages. At present, it would be easy to swap Stoke & Norwich over (many would), but just as easy to include Wolves in our competition for the play offs. I think all of this fits in exactly with the expectations Hunter expressed.

Saturday's referee

I assume it is Allison that is referee this week Clive, but it's certainly not on Sunday or against Wednesday.

I seem to recall we suffered from injuries in that game!

They would have all served their suspensions by the time we play them!

The next three matches
at 16:37 15 Oct 2026

When was the last time we were going into a three game run against opponents of their calibre & thinking it's possible that we can get something from them?

Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing how we cope with these games. Bring them on!

Derby Reflection
at 10:31 15 Oct 2026

My first thought last night was Why are we playing Lloyd wide? It didn't look good in pre season & he seemed lost in the opening ten minutes. Then he clicked & that was Alfie's best performance for us. I'm so pleased that he got a goal. And not any old goal either, but the most important one.

A confident, comfortable win rather than an outstanding performance from us in my opinion & that we played better in the 0-0 against Bolton.

The main question from last night is who will be our back up right back? Can Kemper or Cirkin play on the right if needed? Can Morrison, Varane or Alemayohu (or anyone else) fill in? Or do we have to move Jimmy wide when required? A lot might be relying on Adamson staying focused & fit.

Whatever, the solution, I trust these players to deliver for us. There's not been many seasons in our history that I could say that!

Bowen's tackle before the goal - good tackle or should have been called?
at 09:25 12 Oct 2026

It's shown on the match highlights.

Strangely, the extended highlights only show an angle that looks as if it might not have been a foul, but the shorter version shows an angle that looks as if it could have been a sending off.

On seeing the highlights it was certainly a foul (we all thought so at the time) & I thought bordering on a sending off. It looked more dangerous than reckless to me.

On other matters, there were many very good performances tonight - Charles, Kemper & Kamara in particular, but the standout player to me was Adamson. From expecting him to be roasted if he was playing, I now have no concerns when he is on the pitch.

The first half last night was so controlled. I think we might have a decent team this year!

The reason why it's not possible for the clubs to give "mutual consent" is that it is against the rules of the EFL & the FA.

Why would it even benefit Rangers to do it if that means he can only play in friendlies until January?

Sorry, but you can't do that.

Swindon COULD return him to Rangers, but they would still be responsible for all of the financial arrangements that are in the contract & I'm not even sure that he would be allowed to play for the Development team. Rangers can't recall him until January.

Wow. I got that wrong!

I'm not sure whether I'm in shock or awe at the Wakefield performance today. The only period they didn't outplay Wigan was the ten minutes they were down to 12.

Most of you that read this thread understand & know far more about RL than me, but I thought that the confidence that Walmsley, Jowitt & Johnstone showed in dealing with the return of all of the kicks laid a foundation. All of them made good ground as well, before the forwards ate up yards. To my amateur eye, I also thought Trueman was outstanding.

I will miss next weeks final as I will be in Santorini (away on holiday during the international break), but I'm so pleased I witnessed today's win.

Thank you Mr Sheen.

I would have been confident of Wakefield beating Leeds or Warrington, but I can't see anything apart from a comfortable Wigan victory this evening.

Hopefully Trinity will continue to improve year by year (as did HKR) & have a chance to win it over the next 2 years.

Man City - GUILTY

Demoted mid-season? Not that I know of, but Peterborough were relegated from Division Three in the 1967/68 season for financial irregularities, with the decision being made part way through the season.

Funnily enough, Manchester United were found guilty of the same offence & received a fine rather than relegation.

Chesham United
Wakefield Trinity
Stranraer
Lando Norris
Heathfield FC

Heathfield are a defunct Sunday team from Ipswich, but the memories will last me a lifetime. My wife has instructions that my coffin has a Rangers shirt with Faurlin on it, a Chesham shirt with Scullion on it & a Heathfield shirt with Brown on it.

While in agreement that this isn't a subject I'd want the PM to invest time in, I do think it is unjust that clubs in both tiers of the National League are included in the ban. I think it also includes all matches in the FA Cup, even in the Extra Preliminary round.

Perhaps clubs should be judged on an individual basis?

I would include the blue & white quarters of Bristol Rovers.

To be controversial, I liked the Carlisle second shirts a few seasons back in the colours of Eddie Stobart.
