Up the Budgies in the Farke-Derby
at 09:56 13 May 2024

The West Brom Southampton game was a better watch than Norwich Leeds, but it would have been impossible to be worse (or even as bad)!

What amazed me was that Darnell Furlong was making his 200th appearance for The baggies (although Wiki disagrees with the Sky commentator). An average of 40 games a season since he joined them.

For Darnell alone, I would like West Bromich to win the play offs, but I'm struggling to envisage it!

Andre the friendly ghost departs
at 14:29 12 May 2024

I've preached against Andre Dozzell from the moment that we were first linked with him & I'm delighted that he is no longer with us.

For the record though, he was very good for Ipswich until his injury that kept him out of the game for over a year & was good enough to play for England uner 18's (19's?).

He is still to recover from the injury & has demonstrated since that he was not good enough to play for a midtable Division One club & even more so for us!

Goodbye Andre, gone but not forgotten, you will be considered every time someone attempts to name their "best ever Rangers team". Not quite in the Brian Williams class though!

They will be delighted as there will be no reason not to show Manchester United. Again!

RIP Frank.

A great player, who without the injuries would have been a top half of the top division player.

one track of your favourite artist...

Sixty years on & I still regard Paul Simon as my favourite artist & The Paul Simon Songbook as my favourite album. I could easily have picked Side of a Hill or A Most peculiar Man, but He Was My Brother just about won my internal debate!

What is the point of Neil Warnock

I don't know if it's true, but I think I read somewhere that he's part of the syndicate that is taking over Torquay, or trying to.

Players we should have kept
at 15:41 10 May 2024

Paul Goddard is my obvious one, but selling Alan Glover to West Bromich for £70,000 & Clive Clarke in 1969 has always rankled with me.

Mind you, if it was a case of retaining Francis or Glover, I would sugest the club got it right!

I'm with you W7. IMO Chris Woods was the main reason we didn't win promotion in the 79/80 season.

We needed the transfer fee!

It had nothing to do with his father& he still walks around Loftus Road applauding us every time he plays here.

Odds for 1975/76 season.
at 10:16 10 May 2024

From memory I had £5 at 40/1, a huge bet for then.

It may be that I'm guilty of having exagerated the odds over the years though! Perhaps the size of the bet as well!

Probably the wrong place to post this, but the club have announced that Aaron Drewe is leaving. No surprise there!

Good luck Aaron.

Championship Playoffs - who's going up?
at 09:46 9 May 2024

I'm going for the Russell Martin Challenge Cup Final. Southampton against Norwich.

I know he comes across as arrogant as a manager, but he was the one player at Norwich that I didn't mind!

Sorry Hants. My original post is now edited!

It was the 79/80 season Allen & Goddard scored 44 goals between them. I was only a decade out!

Both times Hants! It takes somebody special to stop Harold being, in my view, our most despicable manager!

The last game of the 78/79 season will always remain with me. I was in the School End with my wife (Ipswich supporter) & iother Ipswich fans that i drank with before Ipswich home midweek games.

I could just about handle relegation. I could just about handle being thrashed by Ipswich. What I STILL struggle with is the sympathy they all had for me when Docherty's appointment was announced!

The Coventry Conference – Report
at 10:29 6 May 2024

Thanks Clive.

I think you covered everything about this season, our manager & the clubs attitude (especially about end of season "dead rubbers") perfectly.

The comparison with the 06/07 season once again comes to the fore, but I'm sure we are in a far better place now than we were then.

I'm too bloody old to be getting excited about our future. But I am!

More to the point is to ask why Paal & Colback were static & allowing Allen six yards of free space.

He was also very brave and decisive when he picked up his inhury.

He has been going off in recent matches.

I suspect he has a niggle which wasn't worth risking.

He played very well apart from his distribution.

I thought Dixon-Bonner was quite good as well.

I can't stop myself laughing at Birmingham!

Not that it mattered, but bringing Armstrong on for Dixon-Bonner nearly cost us.

56 points! Who would have believed that was a possibility?
