Eintracht Frankfurt Turn Down Bid For Saints Target
at 08:29:59

He is a left sided centre-back. We just signed one of those. I didn't believe this one from the first I saw it. Agree focus needs to be on a PEH replacement and it probably is.

Forget Full Backs It's A Central Defender We Need !
at 13:01:54

Yes I also do not agree that centre back is the greater priority here with the encouraging development of the current partnership of Stephens and Bednarek. I have thought for a long time that we have looked poor in the full-back positions. LB when Bertand has been injured and RB even when Cedric has played. Too many times we've been too easily overloaded at the far post. The recent change in tactics with the wide midfielders providing greater protection to the full backs has played a big part in the improved performances, particularly in defence where the centre backs are less vulnerable with the easy crossing being limited. I think our centre backs have been made to look worse than they are with the vulnerability down the flanks previously. I'd like to see how this continues but do think a stronger right back would be welcomed.

Saints Chasing Truly Exciting Signing !
at 11:28:37

I think a Pelle replacement is top priority. If we had someone to hold the ball up top, we wouldn't have had to go so defensive against Palace when they changed to 4-2-4 in the second half. Corillo is the one we're after for that. However, this certainly sounds like an exciting addition that would add pace we're clearly after since losing out on Walcott. Agree with exciled re a centre back. Perhaps more focus on solidifying the central midfield pair would better help our defensive woes. Get Lamena playing at his best with Romeo would add better protection with an improved Hojbjerg battling for a spot. Good signings is the easy solution though. Get the players motivated and playing to win . . . that's the bit that's not working well at the moment.

Saints Favourite To Beat Rivals To Sign England International
at 13:00:57

Walcott is no longer the child prodigy about to take thePremier League by storm but he is a class act we could very much do with right now. His direct pace is a threat againts any team but I agree a striker up top is still needed. We have never replaced Pelle, a strong player up top to hold the ball up and bring others into play. The likes of Redmond, Tadic and Boufal may start to look much better players if they had someone to play off.

Is a change in Saints transfer strategy needed to progress ?
at 12:55:47

Financial Fair Play rules. Every Premier League club is only allowed to increase the money spent on player wages and transfers by a certain percentage each year from what they currently spend. This rule was introduced at the time Saints were promoted, when the wages structure was a lot smaller than other established Premier League clubs. Therefore, until we start selling out the stadium every match and expand it, we will always be behind other top clubs in terms of turnover and therefor how much we can expect the club to spend. I like the positive and aspirational ideas in this piece but there is no commentary on how this can be achieved. I thought the days of wealthy business owners being able to put extra money into a club were over? Clubs need to be self-sustaining no? These are the key points to comment on. I think the idea of wealthy owners means a larger loan can be aquired perhaps but this just means more debt for the club. If we have reached the ceiling of our progression I for one am happy with where we have ended up. Just think progressing any further is going to take a long time of smaller increments.

As for Van Dyke, he was happy to sign a lucrative 5 year deal last season and it shouldn't take even more money to keep him here this season. Good to see the club standing up as you say.

Saints V Pompey The Verdict
at 17:40:36

Look at the table and over the season so far Saints have the third best defensive record at home and something like the 5th best away from home. Unfortunately when you watch you own team week in week out you are always going to remember defensive mistakes because they pretty much always leed to goals - and we hate seeing goals go in our own net. We love seeing the goals we score but look closer. . . There are many more defensive mistakes happening the other end from the opposition! There isn't a defence in this league that doesn't make mistakes but most importantly ours are less frequent than most other teams in this division. If you want more consistent centre backs than the ones we got you'll find them all playing in the Premier league mate where this argument will have more weight to it. Let's hope, and it's still looking good, we will be in a position where we will be needing them next season.
