Ex Saints player Kevin Moore needs your help.

Some Saints fans will be aware that Ex Saints centre half Kevin Moore is suffering from a rare form of dementia and at the age of only 53 now finds himself needing round the clock care.

Last year a benefit fund was set up to help his family with some of the financial burden, amongst those involved are many ex colleagues including Matt le Tissier, which sadly means that so far the Club appears to have shown little interest in helping a player who gave sterling service at the Dell for seven seasons, it would have been nice if perhaps the recent Ex Saints game could have been used as some form of benefit game either through a small admission charge or a bucket collection around the ground, I feel a big oportunity to bring those around the club together has been missed.

Danny Wallace of course was afforded a beneift match a few years ago but there are two big differences here, firstly Danny Wallace is disabled and still has a functioning life albeit sadly resticted, whereas Kevn Moore is unable to lead a anything near a normal life and this is a big strain on his family and this is why his family and friends are seeking to ease their burden, secondly unlike Danny who incidentally is a very deserving cause, Kevin never had the benefit of being an England international and big money moves.

For those younger fans that do not remember moore, he signed for Saints in the summer of 1987, eyebrows were raised in that he was replacing England international Mark Wright, some were disapointed that his replacement was a 29 year old who had spent most of his career at Grimsby followed by three months at Oldham.

However Moore gave Saints sterling service playing 180 games plus 5 as sub in all competitions, scoring 13 goals along the way, including joining Bobby Stokes, David Peach Nick Holmes & Matt Le Tissier in being the only Saints to score at the old Wembley when he headed the equaliser in the ZDS Final of 1992.

In order to raise money for him his fund have been collecting old football shirts and these will be sold off at the forthcoming annual programme fair being held at St Mary's on Saturday 21st may from 11am till 2pm.

Matt Le Tissier who has been a big supporter of the fund has signed some of the shirts along with some prints, this will hopefully raise a reasonable amount to help with his care, any Saints supporter who would like to know more about how they could help or donate to the funs can visit this website for more details http://www.matchworn.org/the-kevin-moore-benefit-fund/

Nick, this is the first I have heard of it and it's really sad to hear. I remember watching Kevin Moore in the first few seasons I went to the Dell. He was a great servant of the club and I hope a lot of money is raised for this good cause.
