Jay Rod Signs Monday, 11th Jun 2012 02:47
Saints made their first signing of the close season and it's a big one as they landed long term target Jay Rodriguez.
Saints showed their intention for the coming season in signing Jay Rodriguez from Burnley, the fee is undisclosed although all reports suggest its in excess of seven million pounds as reported in the media last week.
Saints now have a plethora of hungry strikers for the coming campaign although noneof them have Premier experience of note, however that's only a small matter if you have a combination of skill, hunger and desire to succeed as the strikers at Norwich and Swansea showed last term.
All in all though Saints supporters are pleased with this weekends work.

Pleased he has signed as the club obviously rate him - we clearly needed to put in a bit of work to get him to sign... Who next then? A winger (Zaha, Ince, Trotter - have all been linked), a quick centre back is most in need (rumours around the boy at Cardiff), and a keeper (2 of the 3 England keepers are linked - shame one isnt Joe Hart!). We probably also need an experienced C Midfielder to make up the squad and probably a full back. I think we need a left back but we seem to be more interested in a right back (Clyne etc). Our policy appears to be high potential but inexperienced players - I'm ok with this, but what like one or two players who know what they are going to be up against. As a potential wide target, someone like Routledge (I know he had a few games on loan at Pompey), who has pace, some experience of the big league and I think would be keen to join a bigger team than Swansea. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif)

Fantastic news and a young Englishman as well. Not some final pay day foreigner who doesn't give a damn. I wish Jay all the best, we'll be expecting big things from our record signing. Wouldn't want to be NA right now. How do you select two from our forward line-up? Lot of goals there potentially. Also really like the way NC and NA go about their business. Really professional ethic with regards to dealing with transfer targets. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif)

Would love to see us go for Wilfred Zaha (not sure if he has signed a new contract at CP), he's def one for the future with electric pace. | ![](/images/avatars/2233.gif)

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Southampton Polls |
