Stalemate At Celta Monday, 5th Aug 2013 09:12 Saints, wearing their "Vatican" kit for the first time, played out a 0-0 draw with Celta Vigo in the penultimate friendly before the big Premier League kick off. Saints wore their Vicar kit for the first time as they travelled to Spain to meet Celta Vigo, but if Saints supporters or passing West Brom scouts were hoping for a clubs as to how Saints were going to be lining up for the forthcoming season they would be disappointed as once again it was mix and match for Saints with nine changes being made at half time and no real clues as to what would be the preferred pairings in either the centre of defence or midfield. Given the mass changes at the break it was good that Saints could hold Celta Vigo to a 0-0 draw given that the hosts only changed their keeper at half time and didn't make wholesale changes to the hour mark. It was Saints who controlled the game keeping chances to a minimum and maintaining the stalemate, with both Ramirez and Yoshida getting in 45 minutes being the highlight, but from a perspective in the stands it offered little in the way of clues as to Mauriccio Pochettino's thinking about his starting line up next season, there are probably no more than 5 or 6 players who are 100% of their place in the side at present, whether this is a good or bad thing is yet to be seen and the big question is whether Pochettino will show his hand in next week's home friendly against Real Sociedad or whether again it will be mix and match. Probably the only downside of this game was the defeat in the penalty shootout afterwards, Guly missed and Ward-Prowse saw his shot saved, Steven Davis being the only Saints player to convert as the home side won 4-1 on Penalties.
