Can Pelle Leave Saints With A Parting Gift !

Can Graziano Pelle leave Saints with a great parting gift in the final weeks of the season !

Graziano Pelle has not always had a smooth time of things at St Mary’s, in his early days he was faced with a section of the support who did not seem willing to give him the chance to fill Rickie Lambert’s boots and there has always seemed to be an undercurrent of the fan base who have been quick to get on his back when results don’t go our way.

That has been the case of late despite the fact that earlier in the season Pelle was perhaps the best central striker in the Premier League and that was exemplified by his performance at Chelsea were he not only scored but had a hand in the other goals.

But some seem to have forgotten that and point to a long goal drought as evidence, despite that fact that the Italian spent a big part of that time injured and when he returned had a few cameo roles off the bench rather than in the starting line up.

But Pelle’s return to goal scoring form at Stoke City on Saturday could herald a swansong for the striker who seems likely to leave Saints in the summer and return to his native Italy to end his career.

But could he leave a lasting legacy to his time at the club in the final two months of the season, Pelle tends to score in bursts and if he does so now not only will his spell at Saints be very profitable, but he could just fire the club into a Europa League spot.

Even if he does not manage either, Saints supporters should be very grateful to Pelle, he came in at a difficult time and with some fans unable to accept that Rickie lambert was gone, but Pell’s scoring record in the Premier League is better than Lambert’s when you take into account that none of his goals have come from penalties or free kicks but all from open play.

So it would be great to see Pelle finish with a flourish, but whether he does or doesn’t he should leave St Mary’s with the grateful thanks of every Saints fan ringing in his ears for his service to the club.

He has been outstanding at times this season, and last season. But he has also had long periods when he looks completely out of touch. I know this is partly due to injuries, so if we could rest him for some matches, we may get more out of him. He does take a heck of a battering up front, given the way he plays. And he recently said he wants to stay, which is a big step forward in my view. The fans should recognise that he does bring a lot to us over a whole season.

However, he is far more inconsistent than Ricky was -- you always got a good display from Ricky, and his touch on the ball was in a different class from Pelle's. There is only one Ricky Lambert, no comparison!

I truly wonder how many goals Pelle would have had if he'd received consistently decent service from the wings. Far too often he's had to labour with little or no support and I cannot remember any CF getting battered as much as Graziano has. Okay, he does have his moments of childish trickery and showboating which dulls some of the gloss but overall Saints and their supporters have had their money's worth from him. I, too, understood he was happy to remain at Saints.

Must have read my mind hto. Our front players have had so much crap from many when the problem has been the service. Ron keeps tinkering, He got it right Saturday but I wish he'd make his mind up over the best system and his best players and stick to it!

On his day he makes it look easy so why would we not want a striker like him? Also he is such a great personality to have in the team, a real character as Ron would say and the dressing room would be poorer without him. If he wants to stay then Les just needs to get his pen working.
