FA Cup Fever Can Spark The Revival Saturday, 17th Mar 2018 09:08 Mark Hughes can get his Saints managerial career underway with a win at Wigan and spark the Saints revival this season.
There is nothing like a good cup run to get the fans blood going, the cups have been marginalised over the past decade or so by the armchair TV fans supporting the big clubs, but for the match going football fans of clubs like Saints they offer the chance of a bit of glory and a European tour, so why would we not want to do well in them.
But for Saints the trip to Wigan is not just about the cup it is about a new manager coming in to try and revive the team and make sure that this season is not a disaster.
By winning at Wigan Mark Hughes can get a double whammy, a Wembley appearance in the semi final and a big boost in confidence to his new charges in the Saints squad.
Now is the time for all Saints fans to get behind the team and help it stay in terrier League and more, looking back will not help anything in the next couple of months, moaning about Les Reed won,t help our cause save it for the summer when the season is over, for now get behind the team starting from tomorrow, it,s a big day and by the end of it the season may well have swung in our favout

If Saints don't win at Wigan it will make Sparky's task even more difficult than it already is. They must batter the opposition from the off in a manner last seen under Pochettino and Koeman. A scraped single goal win won't do anything for the confidence. Cup fever could easily turn into Premier League flu resulting in fan sick notes for our remaining games. The starting eleven will be very interesting to see and the formation. Both should be more positive than of late. I wait in hope.

Nick, the FA Cup has not been marginalised by fans as you see it, it has been demeaned entirely because of the greed and cynicism of the big clubs in not taking it seriously and fielding reserve teams even 'though they are compelled by FA rules to participate in it. Given half a chance they'd opt out altogether and the fans would have no say in this. These clubs are only interested in the PL and European competitions simply because that is where all the TV money is, the FA Cup is to them a pauper's cup and not worth getting out of bed for. That's why the BBC get to screen it! Fans everywhere of big clubs or small love the excitement and upsets of the FA Cup as you can tell by 4500 Saints and trekking all the way up to Wigan in horrible weather and likely disrupted services to see their team take on a league 1 side to get to the Semi Finals.

I'm very concerned about the poll on the right where 87% wish to change the manager without a ball being kicked! lol

Wigan are playing way above their L1 level this season and the fact that they have defeated 3 Prem.clubs speaks for itself. As for Saints....I think it is a benefit to be playing away. I'm sure the 4500 hardy souls who are making the trip up North will make more noise than the average St.Mary's crowd who are just waiting for someone to make the next mistake. Whatever the starting line-up the players know they have to stand up and be counted because (if for no other reason ) Hughes will want his million bonus and he won't put up with less than 100% and anyone who doesn't pull his weight today may find himself on the bench for the remainder of the season. The result (?) may not be as important as the performance as long as everyone puts in a shift we may see a revival of form for the remainder of the season.

And no matter the result we will never have to listen to a MoPe or a Puel post match comment again - ever.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Southampton Polls |
