Saints Old Boys Return
Saints Old Boys Return

Plymouth Argyle arrive on Saturday for a South Coast re-union.

Older Saints supporters will recall that Plymouth manager Peter Reid made 7 league starts plus 1 in the league cup for Saints back in 93/94 as ian Branfoot's reign came to its sorry conclusion, indeed Reid was initially touted as a replacement for the much maligned Branfoot, indeed he had been manager at Man City just prior to coming to the Dell.

But Reid chose to end speculation before it got started by stating that he had been brought in by Branfoot so it would be disloyal to stay after he had left, or maybe he just didnt fancy sullying his reputation in what was clearly a car wreck at that time, whatever the truth we shall probably never know.

But Reid isnt the only old boy returning, Bradley Wright Phillips is in the squad, his first season at Home Park hasnt exactly been great although injury has played a part in that, BWP playing only 12(3) league games scoring 4 goals in the process. some would say not a bad ratio for a man who was something of an enigma at Saints, whilst some were blinded by his pace and the odd vital goal, in the main he flattered to deceive.

But there could be a third man making a return to the SMS pitch, Lee Molyneaux has been on trial at the Club and has just put pen to paper on a five month contract taking him to the end of December, whilst his spell at Saints wasnt exactly breathtaking, those who saw the win at Barnsley in 08/09 saw enough to suggest that he might just have had a longer career at the Club if he had been given more of a chance.
