Ageing . How do we feel about it 14:16 - Jan 4 with 5745 viewsonehunglow

Worth a discussion?
In just a weeks time I shall be 73 yrs if age .
It’s a time of reflection Timon and sadness ,sadness for the many chums I’ve had taken to early by illness or accident.
Sometimes I feel guilty to be still around

At times I feel 20 others 120 yrs old and although it is the same brain functioning ,life changes perceptions although I believe our genetics define our temperament . I am volatile with a still nasty temper which has to be controlled . My parents were both people with explosive temperaments and I clearly have inherited that trait . I manage to do so now but it took along time.

In a word, you are what you are and can only be yourself

I wish all readers many more years on this planet,it’s the only life we ll have so live the bastud.

70 this year. Just finished radio therapy for prostate and it was successful. Going on a diet and feeling fine.

Keep busy and as active as possible.

Easy to say I know , but keep moving if mobility ails you , surprising how much flexibility we lose, for anything else keep strong and focussed on the good things.

Thanks..
Physically very active ( running football once a week, walking football twice a week, plus walking the dog etc ).
However two weeks after hitting 60 had a debilitating condition similar to IBS, last almost a year.
Then last five weeks had bad chest infection with Covid in the middle..
Been left with loss of sense of taste and smell, plus lethargic.
Starting to push myself to get out and about.
Will start healthy routine - once all the Xmas goodies are gone.
Trouble is living on my own, that could be a while ...

Sorry to hear. But so much can be done these days.

Great advice. All it takes is a blood test. Get it done, guys.

75 a couple of weeks ago, left knee and hip playing up, had scans recently which shows both will need replacing. Led a very active life, football, cricket, cycling ,lots of walking which now appears to have caught up.
4/5 year waiting list on NHS for replacements, been recommended to try steroid treatment to see how that goes first.

Same as me by the looks of it, been getting worse for 10 yrs, now its hit home.

Had scans in Sancta Maria, £200, having the steroid treatment next week, another £200, it’s a fair bit of money but I’m in bloody agony.
Replacement hip and knee there close to £30k…😮

Hi could you keep us updated, I think a knee replacement there is 12 k . my right one is shot and with no more cortisone injections available due the amount I've already had (they worked for a fortnight but reverted back to pain shortly after ) , do you know if is the steroid treatment beneficial ? I've got more scans than I can shake a stick at so hopefully they'll accept them as proof of deterioration

Genuinely sorry to read that. Wouldn’t wish that on anyone .
I would definitely have it done private as the price will soon be forgotten .

I’ve no idea about stem cell treatments on humans but I paid 2K for my daughter s dog to have stem cell treatment for arthritis and painful hip. I’m just thinking out loud

Good luck Roger,anyway

Will do.

What I have been told is the steroid treatment is not a cure but a delaying procedure which could last a matter of weeks or preferably months, then a further jab will be required. My hip is worse than my Knee and the specialist reckons that the hip is making the knee worse so I’m having the hip done first. They’ve told me that the knee replacement is £14k.

All the best with your prostate situation.

I've had two tests done, both were yrs ago and both came back as very low, can't remember what they were now, but the score was the same both times, Doctor said that I'm very very unlikely to suffer with Prostate issues, yet I'm up several times a night to go for a wazz, so I dunno.

81st Birthday at the Burnley game, off to Bristol on Sunday, enjoy,my day out with the Jack army, had new hip 3 months ago but thanks to World Cup only missed one home game. ST holders round me always helpful. Still enjoying my life all be it at a slower pace. Not going anywhere till I have had more money out the thieving buggers in Government than I paid into them.

81 not out, superb innings, long may it continue.

Good to hear but the chances increase as you get older so get another, you know it makes sense especially if you do need to get up in the night , I had no symptoms at all even up to my op , I had a water infection which started the whole process for me if not I wouldn't have known until it was to late to do anything, at least now I may not have a long life left it's longer than it would have been

Yes I did read that its no cure but I had a cortisone injection about 9 years ago in my left elbow and so far its been great (all my joints conditions are due to my previous career ) so maybe for you it could just be enough to alleviate the pain .Myself its the opposite my knee is now causing my hips to worsen as I now walk like a drunken sailor trying to keep my weight off the joint. All I can say is if I was a horse they'd have shot me by now .
All the best and hope it works and thanks

It just shows in the real world how pointless bickering on football forums is. Look after your personal health everyone and if you are not sure get it checked.
