When we won promotion in the 2011 play off final against Reading our team was as follows...
Swansea: De Vries, Rangel, Monk, Williams, Tate, Dyer, Britton, Dobbie, Allen, Sinclair, Borini.
Subs: Ma-Kalambay, Pratley, Beattie, Serran, Moore, Gower, Richards.
I know the Championship will have changed since then but I thought it was interesting to look at the make up of our team and squad and compare to where we are now.
Squad back then had 36 in it, 9 of which you would probably consider youth players at the time (not including the likes of Shaun Mac). Of the remaining 27 seniors, 11 were acquired on a free and our most expensive signing was Craig Beattie at £800k.
As I've said, you cant make a straight up comparison to the Championship today but it just shows what can be achieved with the right manager, system and scouting set-up. Of course we also had momentum and positivity around the club.

Hartley was due to be out of contract with Exeter in the Summer when we signed him I believe. We agreed to sign him early and loan him back instead of waiting until he was a free agent in the Summer. | | | |

I’m convinced we had a better team back then. De Vries was getting plaudits for his sweeper keeper role. Rangel, Ash, Leon all in their prime. Gower controlled the mid better than Carroll can. Tayls no worse than Olsson before his injury. Monk a proper leader on the pitch. Dyer took players on. Sinclair was on fire, nobody could handle him.
Centre forward we’re stronger now (even if only Ollie stays - he’s streets ahead of what we had that season). VDG was a bit shit too. But then is Routs any better these days?! (Probably just about is, maybe). |  | | |
