| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

| 1 in every 1000 UK citizens have now died of Covid. on 12:23 - Dec 7 by exhmrc1 | The fact is hospitals are full of covid patients. The most recent figures show 262 covid patients in Swansea Bay Health Board. This will probably have increased by later today. That is 20% of all patients. There are 45 patients in critical care in Wales. That is 26% of all critical care beds in Wales. |
How do these figures compare to the usual winter bed crisis. You know the ones that make headlines in the red tops every winter. You can use figures to make a point, the figures need to be used in context though.

| 1 in every 1000 UK citizens have now died of Covid. on 19:11 - Dec 7 by exhmrc1 | It is 1/5 of patients that cannot get in there that would have if there was no covid. A huge impact on the NHS. Morriston Hosp has around 30 ICU beds not including the outpatients area. 20% of that is 6 beds ie 6 beds that other very ill patients would normally be able to use but cant and the figures are rising, As Catullus has said 190 patients in Morriston Hospital that wouldnt have been there if it wasnt for Coronavirus the equivalent of 7 closed wards. |
So 20% sounds bad, 6 beds not so bad You see, it depends how you want to spin things.

6 out of 30 leaves 24. Nothing to do with spin. It is a serious position that will get worse until such time as covid is brought under control. You might soon end up with close on half the beds being used on covid patients. Where does that leave the people with other illnesses. We havent yet reached the normal winter pressures that happen every year in January. That is going to be on top of the people in hospital with covid. Between July and September there were no covid deaths in Swansea Bay. From the beginning of October until now there has been 184 deaths. This is nothing to do with spin. It is real people passing away.

You missed the point about spinning figures.

There is no spinning of figures. The people giving these figures like Frank Atherton and Chris Whitty have no reason to do that. Why would Drakeford want more deaths than there are. It would look bad on him. If he was to spin figures he would reduce them rather than increase them.

I think what is being referred to is that there is a difference between the figures reported and those who died of covid and only covid. There is also an issue between how we log deaths and compare those to other countries who log their deaths differently. For example people with extremely advanced cancer may have contracted covid and it not contributed to their death as they died of cancer but they were positive. They would be in the covid stats. In the spring France did not count those who died in care homes. Which is clearly wrong when England was counting anyone who ever tested positive. A GP friend said that our numbers of actual, 100% covid deaths are lower than the total and he was baffled as to how and why they were recorded. He did say that it would be difficult to compile stats quickly otherwise. That's to take nothing away from this disease, it is horrendous.

Works on "the" covid ward? There is more than one and as I said, there were 180 cases in morriston yesterday. I don't know how many in Singleton, which hospital is she in? Your last sentence, you can have cancer for months before you know something is wrong, is cancer not deadly? Many people have had a heart attack and dropped dead but never knew they had a problem, is that not deadly?

The problem is that covid causes many other problems by shutting down organs. Things like pneumonia will often happen because it affects respiratory systems. As someone who has actually been in intensive care with pneumonia and sepsis a couple of years ago I think I have some understanding of the problem. At one stage I had eight doctors around me and had 7 venflons installed and my wife was called at 7.30am because I had taken a turn for the worse.

And when my daughter was 5 weeks old, she had meningitis, septicaemia, kidney failure and double pneumonia, she was in itu for almost 5 weeks, hence her now being quadriplegic cerebral palsy. We all know things, we all have different experiences and views. As has been said, most have to have a test to know if they have or had covid. Over 99% survive covid. It’s not as dangerous to most people as you make it out to be.

Yes that's true but again, it's not just about deaths, it's about what it does to the NHS.

It is and it seems a bit random. My Auntie is 69, overweight and asthmatic, she is on day 10 of symptoms today and over it (fingers crossed) after feeling very tired for a week. 59 year old, very fit and active Male family friend thought he was over it in two weeks and has just been admitted to hospital.
