Got a decent bloke in, he bottled it, not SCFC fault. They did their side of the deal. I'm glad the fool isn't coming to us. Weak.

OK I've changed it.

As we’ve said before, we can only report on what we know and speculate on solid sourcing, I'm more inclined to go for his lack of courage to go it alone at a bigger club, and knowing if Warburton starts badly he gets a Managers job with more money in his comfort zone. Plus the speculation and all regards qpr making a last ditch contractual improvement. Although the latter is unconfirmed, the former are fact for me.

Excellent insight, Keith, as always.

London will always be a pull for a certain type of person, and if his family is settled that is more than understandable he wouldn’t want to mess that up. Not sure that is what happened, though, but either way I agree that we may have dodged a bullet here.

I think your three points, especially your first two as you said, are very clearly the issues at play here. First, didn’t want to take the risk of coming here and didn’t back himself. No cojones, as my wife says.

Your second point is probably what it came down to, though, given there was an agreement in place with us. Someone, probably his agent, was in his ear last minute telling him he can stay in London and get the manager’s position when Warburton inevitably gets the sack. QPR has been a basket case for years, not the best spot for a manager thinking long-term, but he’s clearly thinking short-term and what benefits that will bring him personally. If I were Warburton I’d be watching my back, but I think he’s got his eye on a director of football position, potentially at QPR if Ferdinand gets his big move.

If Eustace did get a renewed contract with a pay rise, well then that just makes it clear he leveraged outside interest to his own advantage. That would be a smart business decision on his part, but would be a red flag to his character and definitely someone we would not want to lead our club at such a sensitive time for us on the pitch and off. We have to make the right call here, and I think Eustace made it a lot easier for us. He is not the guy we need, so can only thank him for making that very apparent.
