Thanks for the info guys, had a good visit, and met some nice people from all over EU and 2 local lads from Neath and Brecon, both bikers on a 3-4 day tour of the area.

I also had an amazing surreal meeting with a 96 yr old D Day veteran , that was for us the highlight, and very moving 20 mins, but that's another story.

My biggest mistake was where we were based, we should have gone the other side of Caen, as the travelling took up some time. But I would recommend it to everyone, as stated by someone Overlord was outstanding.

Glad you had a good time, and I use the term good loosely. It can be a cathartic experience.

That's exactly it, they were just ordinary people like you and me. Your Grandfather was probably an ordinary man, who did extraordinary courageous things.

Tobruk (operation Agreement) El Alamein, D Day and also served in the Far East so also faced the Japs and survived, that is certainly extraordinary but yes, all he wanted to be when he came home was an ordinary bloke just like millions of others.

I have thought about it long and hard and I can only come to one conclusion, he was at least twice the man I am because I don't think I could have done what he did. Thankfully I will never have to find out.
