The gas produced in the UK is extracted by companies like Shell etc who sell it on the global market, it’s a commodity that’s in great demand and we have to pay the going rate. It comes from here but it’s not ours.
Under the terms of previous contractual agreements, the price generators of nuclear and solar electricity receive for their product is directly linked to the price of gas generated electricity, it goes without saying that the companies/people who own turbines/ large solar and nuclear generating capacity are doing rather well - their costs haven’t increased what their getting paid has gone through the roof. | | | |
