Muscat is as much a scumbag as Barton. A player who routinely threatened other players that he would break their legs only to often carry through with the promise leaving one player lucky not to have his leg amputated according to the surgeon who had to perform four operations to save it.

It certainly does compare. If you go out to deliberately hurt somebody whether it’s on the pitch or off it it’s assault. And he often used to tell the player in advance that he was going to do it which makes it pre meditated.

We are not talking about full blooded challenges or use of “the dark arts” leaving a bit in, arm in the face or aggressive combative play. This is someone saying I’m going to seriously hurt you then going and doing it. There’s several instances and accounts of this bloke doing that.
