| Never underestimate an old man on 21:28 - Jul 28 by EagleEye | Fish n chips & Whitby can’t be faulted. But Middlesbrough, been there twice, worked with many of them, possibly the roughest, toughest place in the country …. ? |
Met one on the bridge in Argostoli. He showed me his season ticket Home of Chris Rea and Bob Mortimer . There’s worse places out there

| Never underestimate an old man on 14:37 - Jul 28 by KeithHaynes | We have 400 restaurants and bars in my town. They are attended by tourists from all over Spain, very few Brits. No shirts off in bars, or the owner gets fined and the person doing it. Thats enforced regularly. I’ve seen one man get a proper dig from the police and he was a beetroot coloured Scotsman who had too much sun. That’s tourist and beer related. There’s been a few other times I’ve seen the law enforced. Spanish people in the main are very calm and very approachable. They don’t want the sort of behaviour that follows UK tourists. All chain bars planning applications are refused. Our area is for families, kids (who generally are exceptionally well behaved at the table for hours, being with family and elders and acting appropriately is ingrained into children) Crime rate is very low, for assaults and drunkenness (that’s rarely seen ever) Kids talk to the police, and when in groups always tidy up their rubbish and move aside on pavements for others. I’ve never experienced any other behaviour other than politeness. ( To do so brings disgrace on the family ) if the police do get involved you won’t sit at grandmothers table for months. That’s a real disgrace, she is the matriarch. It might be old fashioned but there are still places in our area, in fact well outside the cities that still operate as if it’s sixties Britain. Local markets, food, vegetables shopped locally is very cheap. Nothing is perfect, and Spain most certainly isn't, but on this level it is. Public safety, consequences of actions and respect is everywhere.

That's how it should be. Me and the Mrs have started looking into relocating, not so easy since brexit but doable. We're off to Spain again in a few weeks doing a reccy and speaking to a few people. A bit to do yet but making a start.
