I did my annual trip to France in May , this time to the WW1 battle fields which for some strange reason for me was more much more moving than I thought it would be as far as I know I had no direct links to anyone who fought there unlike Normandy. Did the must do visits to Mametz Wood, Arras, Amiens , Beaumont Hamel and Theipval and many other cemeteries and memorials. If anyone ever needed a reminder that no one really wins any war then the battle fields in France are stark examples. |  |

I've been going at least twice a year for about 12yrs. And your experience of WW1 sites is similar to mine, very emotional and moving. But for the difference of 70 odd years could have easily been me at Mametz or worse still Flat Iron Copse. | | | |
