Plenty have called out his publicity photos as staged BS with his opponents letting him throw them. He was awarded 8th Dan about 10 years ago but his ability level is no where near that at judo and it’s sambo that he actually practices to a club level.

His judo techniques look authentic to me. As you go up the dan grades you get awarded on your technical knowledge and ability. A 8th dan isn't necessarily going to be any better competitively than a first dan. When you see him practising in the Dojo, it's not competition, it's light sparing where your opponent doesn't resist, it's getting the technique correct. He may have done some sambo as well though.
