| Wales in Quarter Finals of European Championship 1976 19:06 - Nov 26 with 5312 views | bonymine | Anyone else on here remember this ? I was a mere lad of 11 years old when my Dad and I were season ticket holders in the old Double Decker at the Vetch just after our re-election season and just before our meteoric rise from Div 4 to Div 1 under Harry Griffiths (God rest his soul what a lovely man) and then John Toshack. That season my Dad also took me to Ninian Park to see Wales playing Yugoslavia in the European Championships Quarter Final. I'll never forget that day we were in the old enclosure at Ninian Park just below the main stand and the referee was the East German Rudi Glockner (I'll never forget his name till the day I die). All I can remember is looking forward to watching the match but the atmosphere soon turned vitriolic when they went 1-0 up and I was mesmerised by what seemed to be the whole of the Welsh crowd baying 'Sieg Heil' accompanied by Nazi salutes towards the Ref. It kicked off all around the ground and the teams were taken off for their safety. Just watching the Welsh news has brought it all home to me and I've just found this interesting article on that infamous night...not as infamous maybe as Joe 'Handball' Jordan at Anfield in the World Cup Qualifier for Argentina Finals 1978 but still a vivid and eye opening experience of my early years following the Swans and Wales ! The Referee's a Juan Kerr.. http://footballpink.net/2014/01/10/rudolf-rudi-glockner-one-of-the-great-forgott 😡😡 | |

Now based in Malaga, Spain, Matt Harrison still follows the swans, Wales and his local club Malaga. Of course his interest in football continues globally and anyone who knows Matt knows he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the game. 0

It’s one of those games that you remember as if it was yesterday. Loads of games, I just haven’t a clue about, even though I would have been there,
