Another kick in the teeth for social care 15:28 - Apr 4 with 1802 viewsGwyn737

The government tell us that one of the biggest problems we face are asylum seekers with 65k entering last year.

At the same time 57k visas were given out for low paid, unqualified roles in social care.

With the 65k asylum seekers who are in hotels and other temporary accommodation, the vast majority are quite happy to work (some of which. Outdoor to roles that require higher qualifications) but can’t.

Why does one group present an existential threat and the other doesn’t?

I think you’re right.

That’s why I bang on about the importance of effective processing.

it's pretty much the same thing, gwyn, it comes down to an absolutely rubbish government.

Immigration control has been cut, it needs a lot of investment to get it up to standard. Then we need to sort out immigration policy and make it right and fair.

This government goes in for far far too much knee jerk policy making. it's exactly the worst version of populist politics.

Quite simply the large number of Albanian illegal immigrants have no desire to take up low paid jobs when they have bern recruited by drug gangs who they are in debt to to pay for their boat trips.

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.

Spot on, Cat.

Today we had the 500 people being housed on barge making the headlines. This is on the same day the news included the social care story, 8500 hours of sewage dumped in our water, more teacher strikes and the deportation of Nepalese Guards (which is an horrific story).

You could certainly argue the government are dog whistling.

When Starmer took over I said a few times that he should be making more ground on Bojo, he had so much material to work with.

His ammunition hasnt dried up but some say he's right to be quiet because the tories are shooting temselves in the foot.

Where I disagree is, we need a new government but we need to know who Starmer is too. is he the man who will fight for this country? Will he speak out with conviction about the things we care about and with the tories digging their own grave, shouldn't he be there with his shovel ready and eager to fill the hole in on top of them?

I want him to look eager to take over. he just comes across as a bit limp to me and we need someone stronger. Bojo won a lot of votes by the merest appearance of being strong. It was blather and bluster but people went for it because they wanted to believe. I want to believe in Starmer but he's giving me no confdence.

The media do not help, with all that's wrong they concetrate on a barge when the whole fleet is sinking. We have sadly gone far too much USA like in our media and political union.

But this number is just a tip , as we know due to the lack of joined up thinking and lack of a viable immigration system the numbers have increased year on which in a lot of cases still waiting to be processed . Albanians for example shouldn't be here illegally regardless of their numbers but as they are here then they should go through what ever process t we have and that adds to the problem
