I've been using XBMC for about 3 months now and it really is the mutts nuts. I've cancelled my Sky subscription and got Virgin Broadband (it's the only fibre optic available in my area). I've seen every movie, TV show and sports event that I've wanted.
I bought a Dell Dimension Media PC of Ebay for £30, loaded all the software myself (very straight forward if you use the kind of Youtube video posted above - and I'm by no means what you'd call tech savvy), paid £9 for a wireless dongle and £7 for a keyboard/mouse/remote. I was paying £90 a month for Sky so I've already made my money back several times over.
My question to other users is, considering the grey area regarding the legality of all this, do you use a VPN? If so which one and does it impact on your systems performance. I know Ux has recommended Overplay but just wanted to get a few more opinions before getting one.

So..................is anyone using a VPN or are we all going to jail together?
There's a few in here I wouldn't trust in the showers
As you said I use Overplay. Performance impact is negligible - I have 40MB speeds normally and that's barely impacted if I use a particular UK based VPN server. Others are on the market and may be just as good or better. A few will offer trials so shop about a bit.
Is it needed? Maybe not. I mainly got it because of the BeIn sports sub. If I was just using XBMC I probably wouldn't bother.
