Former Chelsea coach Jose Morais is a contender for the vacant managerial post at Swansea City, Sky sources understand.

Morais is currently unattached after leaving Chelsea last week following the sacking of Jose Mourinho and Sky sources understand he is in the running to succeed Garry Monk at the Liberty Stadium.

The Portuguese also worked under Mourinho at Porto, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

His last managerial position came with Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab in 2014, but his stint in the Arabian Peninsula lasted just three months.

Sky sources have also confirmed former Sunderland and Brighton manager Gus Poyet is still being considered as a potential replacement for Monk.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins flew to South America last week to hold talks with former Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa, however discussions between the club and the Argentine have stalled.

Caretaker manager Alan Curtis has been in charge for the past two matches against Manchester City and West Ham and is expected to lead the team for the home match against West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day.

It's so good that you said it twice?

If he plays the same way as Mourinho then that would be a terrible idea. Chelsea played defensive football and then outclassed their opponents with superior players. We can't do that, nor should we want to.

If you want to get a Spanish assistant coach who has been sacked recently then you might as well get Pep Clotet.
