| Kids football in Swansea compared to football hotbeds 20:17 - Feb 17 with 1557 views | guthrieintherain | My grand children have recently started training midweek and playing football on weekends. I take them to training and games on a Sunday when I can. The set up is really impressive a dozen or so pitches in a couple of locations locally. With a good standard of training there must have been close on 200 training this week small pitches floodlit with one or 2 ex professional players involved in the training. I just wondered how this compares to the set up in Swansea. Thanks in advance [Post edited 17 Feb 2022 20:18]

There's still a great interest in kids football but with the demise of the senior league many kids fade away from playing the game . It appears to me local clubs are now turning into " Academies " with an emphasis more individual competitiveness within the team rather than for the pleasure of playing the game.

Yes I was very surprised when I saw the facilities. Mark Proctor Boro schools of football 7 years in the PL why doesn't Swansea have a similar facility Maybe the 500k the trust are getting should in some way help the youngsters in Swansea to give them decent pitches ETC. There was a provision in the Stadium leasing deal for the Club to build new facilities for Swansea footballer. No idea how that has gone and if the Council have audited the deal. Mr Pearlman highlighted this beneficial aspect, I recall.

Perhaps someone should tell the Junior league, I'm sure they'll be happy with the news

Tircanol , Ashleigh road and Mynydd Newydd haven't had a bean spent on them , local pitches like Bonymaen Park are cut once twice a season no nets provided with little or no maintenance but permits fees are still expected to be paid . Halfway Park is now leased to Brynawel ( and a fine job they've down with volunteers and fund raising . Some junior league games games are played at Play Football but playing off the boards is useless and dangerous. There was money set aside 3/ 4 years ago for a 4 g pitch to be built behind Cefn Hengoed School in Bonymaen but so far nothing . There was talk when Landore was built that the U23's pitch in front of the main building was to be used for local league cup finals but I don't think that ever happened so its pretty dire in terms of 4g facilities and the less said about the remaining grass pitches the better

I remeber reading it and it is reported at the end of the ITV report. http://stadiumdb.com/news/2017 Point 3 -Third, Swansea City would build two 3G fields for local youth for every 5 years of the deal. Two should have been built or at least in planing. [Post edited 17 Feb 2022 23:47]

I trust you'll get to the bottom of these missing pitches and not let the Americans off the hook on this Resloven.

I have very good memory and point people in the right direction. The Club has an obligation to the rate payers and the children and young people of Swansea. Have they been built or are there plans on the table. Is Swansea council on the ball?
