The attitude of the US ownership to the management team is reflected in the money available for signings.
Potter was poor upto January and got no money and sulked. He then went on a good strong run with Baker Richardson doing well covering for OMcB's illnesses and Grimes filling in a fullback. He adapted. US would see this as SWEATING THE ASSETS without wasting money (on Ryan Woods for example). No money better results. The manager doing his job.
Cooper's first season started like a house on fire then lost momentum. Even Borja was playing well. They won away at Leeds. Despite the fall off the owners were impressed and gave Cooper Guehi Gallagher and Brewster and French speedster Kalulu. Top drawer talents. This squad should have buried 10 man Brentford but £60k a week Ayew missed a penalty. He was backed. Fulham scarped past a modest Cardiff team. Cooper in hindsight might have got more out of Gallagher.
In his last season Cooper did not use Peterson or Goykeres and this would have annoyed the US owners. (Goykeres is arguably better the Keenan Davis who Cooper wanted reportedly). Cooper has already ditched Davis. Subsequently he was not given what he wanted in January either. He adapted and SWEATED THE ASSETS with Lowe a winger and Ayew a no 10 as strikers. He adapted and it nearly worked. The US people would have kept him. An ideal person to sweat the assets. No money better results.
Martin was cut some slack and limited good signing were made band before he arrived Piroe Obafemi and regrettably Walsh. The US owners gave him some money to bring in Fisher Downes Ogbeta and Burns. Some players picked by Allen, Martin did not rate. Burns and Ogbeta. This again would not have gone down well. Extra spending no improvement in results.
Martin has in accordance with this seen his summer budget curtailed. He now has to SWEAT THE ASSETS and do what Potter did and go on an unbeaten home run. Potter did not lose a single home game after Christmas. Martin says he needs more time and has ditched players the US owners were persuaded to give long contracts to. Martin does not rate them at all I believe Garrick whittaker Joseph are the wrong sort of players for Martin just like Shefki Kuqi and Craig Beattie was for Brendan. US owners would have prefered Martin to make these "young men " sweat for the badge. Dan Williams and Ollie Cooper might now see another loan take their spot. It does not go down well stateside.
