There is obviously a new offside rule ? 17:08 - Aug 9 with 2246 viewsKeithHaynes

I could be wrong here but if you re adjudged offside and then afterwards you are the first player to collect the ball no matter where it is the free kick is taken from that position if it’s to the advantage to the other side ?

Referring to the Idah offside which was then restarted in the Swans half.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

I couldn't work that one out. Maybe a rule change I've missed?

Yes the rule changed, Keith is correct I believe but the rule definitely changed. The same as its now 1 minute for an injury including the keeper.

Key Rules

Own half safety: You are completely onside if you are standing or running in your own half when the ball is kicked.

Position of the feet/body: Any part of your head, body, or feet must be in the opponent's half to trigger an offside position.

Restart location: If an offside player moves back into their own half to become active and play the ball, the indirect free kick is taken from where they touched the ball, which can be inside their own half. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

The new rule was introduced 4 or 5 years ago.

I’ve never seen it in action as seemed most of the ground yesterday.

But thanks.

There have been a few but rare instances of the offside rule in the stadium being used by the defending team basically if the players are seemingly unaware of the rules it does seem to lead to confusion in the crowd as the players argue with the ref.
