Spurs man on loan?
at 19:18 21 Aug 2018

He's much more like the previous defender of ours you had on loan, for good and bad he's better on the ball mind but his turning circle might be even worse if that's possible.

I've never seen him play as a defensive midfielder but I think he'd be pretty poor there.

He's definitely won't be in our squad come 1st September and Levy is Levy and personally I wouldn't sell for less than £10m I'd rather loan him out and see how he does. Poch has said he'll be on the way out but as to where I have no idea.

As a Spurs fan I'd rather we loaned him out than sold him, even if he can't change Pochettinos mind he could significantly increase his value to us. The ankle injury was at a terrible time for him he would have likely got a decent chance to show his ability with us last season but the injury meant we went and spent money on both Nji'e and Son and although neither are similar to Pritch they do play in the same positions.

Not sure what happened at WBA but it always looked like an awful move, why send a small skillfull attacking midfielder to a Pulis team on loan?

Anyway we did have high hopes for him but from Swanseas point of view it only makes sense if you're going to be playing 4-2-3-1 as I can't really see him excelling in a 4-3-3.

I guess there's a variety of issues but the main one will probably be the timing of the games which is during the international break, makes sense from a marketing perspective but as most international age group teams play on those same international breaks it would be a big problem finding a team to play in the competition.

I can't speak for other clubs but we tend to keep our number of academy players relatively lean with plenty of loans of older academy players and while I'm sure we could find 18 players even with international agre group games going on it would be a real mish mash that probably wouldn't do anybody any good as they wouldn't be training together day to day.

City aren't going to let him go in January they only have him and Aguero as genuine strikers.

I did think afterwards that Hodgson is probably the one of only three people in the world (other than Townsend and his mum).

Who actually rates Townsend though?

Ramsey and Kane were both excellent last year so their rating is probably higher than their actual level I suppose that happens a lot, players are rated more on their current or recent form than over the longer period of their careers.

You could get in to the third pot if you win all 3 games and results go your way couldn't you?

Wouldn't it be possible just to run a track from the station to the park and ride using the old sidings and just run a train back and forth on match days?

I agree it's not really apt to compare Swansea to the London teams who benefit from already having a massive public transport system in place (I also agree that getting to Spurs isn't exactly easy as most people walk the roughly same distance from Seven Sisters as you would from Swansea station). Not being a Swansea fan I have no idea if the problem is actually getting from the train station though.

Well it's pretty easy to produce enough energy it just requires us building some more nuclear power stations we have the capabilities to do so it just goes back to the government being incompetent and worrying more about votes than the good of the country, it makes too much sense for the countries entire baseload demand to be satisfied by nuclear power and anything above that by other sources...

Foods going to be harder as population increases as we've already intensified most of our farming but unless there's a massive world crisis we're always going to be able to import food as we're 1) comparatively very rich and 2) just about have enough left of a Navy to protect our supply lines (plus several major exporters of food are very close allies).

Other things vital to the economy and daily living like oil imports are again helped by our wealth.

If there's jobs available 200k a year net immigration is sustainable in the medium term in my opinion and in fact can easily be argued that due to our population not naturally growing a huge amount (prediction of a 6% rise over 25 years mainly due to people living longer) will result in big issues in terms of tax revenue vs outgoing social costs for the elderly (pensions, medical care etc).

To answer someone the reason why net immigration from commonwealth countries vs EU changed when the government changed was I expect due to the new government greatly restricting the number of qualified professionals allowed in to the UK per year, I don't think Aussie bartenders count as qualified professionals but still :-)

What's your definition of sustainable? In terms of population density Japan as an Island with similar geography in terms of mountains etc has ~337 people per km2 compared to the UK's 255 people per km2 which if extrapolated to the UK would be ~85m people.

There are similar economy countries to ours with much higher population densities than that the most obvious example being Holland with over 400 people per km2 but then their land is due to its flat nature much more easy to build on overall compared to the UK or Japan.

In terms of sustainability in my opinion is just a question of jobs for those people, London may seem crowded but it's only this year it's got back to its pre WWII population peak and no cities in the UK are very densely populated compared to foreign ones in countries with similar sized economies due to very little historic use of high rise residences, sure there were plenty of tower blocks put up in the 60's but they made up a small proportion of the housing stock and many have been or are being knocked down due to the social issues.

It does take some planning to provide facilities for an increase in population size though and well I wouldn't let any politician (local or national) plan a piss up in a brewery if I'm honest.

I don't disagree, not sure if it's the scouting or the decisions made by the management but it doesn't help that we bring in otherwise good players who just don't fit our system (changing managers every couple of years doesn't help that either mind you but the tactics of AVB and Pochettino are actually very similar so shouldn't have had an effect this year).

If not more....not really we only have one striker what with Adebayor being ostracised.

There just aren't many good strikers out there unfortunately and what with PL clubs having so much money most don't have any reason to sell for "fair" market value plus the home grown tax which isn't an issues for us but we'd still have to pay it.

Our real issue was seemingly not having any other backup targets even if it was just an older player who could tide us over for a season.

None of the parties involved has come out well from this IMO. We don't have a backup for Kane and have no doubt added another club to the list who we've pissed off regarding transfers, Berahino has no doubt pissed off the WBA fans and his chairman and is still at WBA and WBA have an unhappy player.

I'm sure he was being advised by someone but SB got rid of Aidy Ward at the start of the summer so he doesn't have a long term agent advising him.

Not sure what to make of the £5m up front stuff, we've denied it was that low and it would surprise me if we only offered 25% of a fee up front, we don't need the extra few million for the stadium this year for one it's a pittance compared to the build costs and two the major payment periods needed won't be until the next two summers when major construction begins anyway.

Leighton Baines out for three months
at 09:02 14 Aug 2015

We've sold most of our glut, Yedlin will probably go out on loan and that's about it and he's a RB/RW though so wouldn't help cover for the loss of Baines/Stones.

We've got a couple of youngsters (Veljkovic and Cameron Carter-Vickers) who may or not go out on loan but I doubt they're developed enough to interest Everton.

Some players we may yet face this season
at 20:13 6 Aug 2015

I don't think Real are, their first team squad is relatively streamlined and their youngsters loans have already been arranged, Barcelona are looking to loan some youngsters out though apparently.

I'd be shocked if Spurs are in for Raul Meireles, seems completely contrary to what with done in the transfer market and what Paul Mitchell and Pochettino are known for. I don't think he'd have the energy to play in our system as a DM anymore either and we still have lots of players further forward.

Seems like a slight over reaction to play a game of football, not sure private businesses paying the military to do their bidding is setting the best precedent either!

Sort of a typical spurs defender/keeper then :-)

I didn't see much of him in his last season with you but Tremmell looked good, seems like you get a good season or two out of a keeper and then they turn bad though :-)

It's strange how well Fabianski has done for you considering he was a bit of a joke at Arsenal but he's look excellent. Guess a change of scenery, constant minutes or less pressure (or a mixture of the three) have helped his game.

He's actually been pretty good for us other than a similar goal to that which he conceded against Leicester and resulted in us going out of the FA Cup last season. He did make an excellent save in the RM game but that's the thing with goalies their mistakes always get picked up on and generally remembered!

As a backup keeper for us he's fine.
