This rings very viscerally to me so I'll just add two things: Gentrification is rampant and spurred on by developers in so many major cities. When I left Brooklyn the building was already being targeted. They stopped leaving the envelopes under the door to put the cheques in (ridiculously old fashioned I know) so I phoned them up and asked what was going on. The person on the end of the phone told me the building had been sold and they could either send me this month's rent slip or they could make me an offer for a buy out. We had already booked our flights to come back, so I asked her how much she would give me to buy my way out of the lease. She asked what would you be looking for so I said '$10k minimum'. I thought that was a solid effort, but the fact that she didn't bat an audible eyelid caused me concern once I'd hung up the phone. I I went back a couple of days later and made adjustments based on tax etc but I probably could have got more. I'm at peace with it would've been spent long ago. The point is though, assuming that poor woman had similar rental rights to me at that time, that we in the UK have never had, it is so easy to see how she was squeezed, and for how long. Other people in my building had started to feel that. Same developer by the way as featured at the very end of The Jinx Part 2 for anyone who's seen it. The other issue is the massive preponderance of Airbnbs all over Spain. I'm a bit less wordy on that one. [Post edited 8 Oct 21:15]

I've never watched it and don't get it, and have decided not to get it. I know I may be losing out but I can't be bothered with yet more celebrity wittering. I'd much prefer continuing to watch random episodes of Jade Fever - real men (and a woman) out there in the elements, mining or mostly not mining, jade. Driving around in old trucks and cutting open rocks with a big saw. Failing safety inspections and arguing over mud. Now that's entertainment. |

It's either going to be 'there is NO link between injuries and who plays. The latter is based entirely on attitude' and Rayan has shown the right attitude recently. Or 'There is NO link between injuries and who plays. The latter is based entirely on attitude' and I'm going to need to see it more, or more consistently before Rayan is selected. I'm leaning toward him separating the injuries and the standards out as a point he wants to make clear, to explain why he's selecting Kolli, but we'll see. Good stuff anyway Clive and Connor - thanks. I'm going to have to listen back to the first half of that answer on why Ronnie is so good - sounded slightly marijuana assisted to me, but in a good way. I've really enjoyed this run of Norn Iron games - much more than expected But yeah - Smyth not getting on took the shine off that a bit tonight, along with the penalty miss obviously. You could make an argument in a couple of the other games for him not coming on, but not tonight. He was still out there at the end congratulating his team mates, showed some class. |

This will fly off the shelves, taking the place of Golden Pride in the "I've only had 3!" argument to wives across the nation. |

Not to be a snowflake, but should we be kicking a man when he's down? He's got a lot to work on no doubt, but he does have a lot of quality too. Combined quite naturally with Illy for those 28 minutes they were both fit. I could see him doing similar with some of that squad now. |

That could be true about your dad's thoughts - I think she was so ubiquitous she probably didn't get the respect she deserved at that time, looking back. Different times though. A pretty remarkable woman - even trying to make a difference at the end. RIP Esther. |

Lots of good, more current spots for visitors than I would probably come up with. One thing I'd say, NYC is quite different now than it was in 2002. Excluding the obvious situation back then, it's far more expensive. There are also more homeless people than there used to be - areas to avoid for you would be west of where you're staying - Port Authority area etc. (It's not easy to be homeless of course but just in terms of seeing the better side of the city). So I'd do only the briefest glances of Times Square tbh, if that. If you're going to Macy's I wouldn't bother planning on too much else in the area - not the nicest. Much more pleasant areas east of Grand Central, down through Murray Hill to Union Square etc. The West Village is still nice and you could combine that and Chelsea market with the High Line. For the High Line go early or late - when it's busy you spend too much time walking behind other people. You'll be too late in the season for Fire Island so for an out of town day trip I'd look upstate - lovely foliage etc. Cold Spring Harbor is easy to get to from Grand Central - small town but a nice journey along the Hudson. Breakneck Ridge is a nice hike in that same region but needs a bit more planning. Just to add: when I say it's more expensive that's not meant to be me stating the obvious. People who've lived there all their lives are noticing it. Eating and drinking out has gone through the roof for 2 or 3 different reasons. So I'd just budget for that. And of course there are lots of other great areas. The upper west side is nice to walk around - Malachys's is a good old school bar on 72nd, nice stop off after the park. I love Queens but moreso in the summer. The pizza place people are talking about above is Grimaldi's, the Brooklyn promenade has all been done up and is a nice walk. I actually prefer walking across the Manhattan Bridge than the Brooklyn Bridge - less hectic, great views and the Manhattan side ends in Chinatown rather than the City Hall area. Etc. Anyway enjoy! I went yesterday. Wasn't identifiable as an R I don't think, so that's one more. Lovely weather, good facilities - nice pint of John Smiths. Thought Southall played some good stuff in the second half and deserved the replay - don't see their LB (no. 12) being there very long. [Post edited 21 Sep 9:55]

Possibly a dark yellow, but going in like that I thought he left himself open to the red. Not a great bit of control in the first place and then he made it worse. I've watched it back only a couple of times and it's still not obvious to me, so again you don't want to be giving referees a decision to have to make in that sort of situation. |

First point I did wonder. They're beside each other on the spreadsheet, that's the only explanation. Second point, JCS is made of glass and must be handled with care - and they'd already announced that the medical team is smashing it so hard Jimmy is already fit. Possible combination of him pushing, it not being a risky injury, but him not being fully fit anyway. Scarlett had probably our 2 most dangerous moments of that first half I thought. Was the right call to replace him at half time. |

Smyth smashing his badge, running back and signaling to keep pushing. That is grit. |

Or 2-2 v Brentfart for anyone who was left to see it. Though that was more funny than anything else. |
