 | Forum Reply | Southampton Lining Up Move For Modern Target Man Striker In The Summer at 14:08 19 Feb 2026
A "modern target man" no doubt means that he has an all round game, rather than being an old skool no. 9. They're trying to find a poor man's Haaland, who can do it all, rather than say a Kieffer Moore who can do the target man bit but isn't that mobile. Kasper Hogh fits that profile - he's big and strong, good in the air etc. but also has good skills, some pace and can press all match, which is important in the modern game and not something old style target men had to do. Of course that means we won't be able to sign him. We have zero chance if we're not promoted and even if we are, he will have much better options. |

If Apollo paid circa £25m for 10%, then that means they ALREADY value the club at £250m. It would be worth significantly more in the PL. The Hollywood pair bought a clapped out non league club, with plans to take it to the PL. SR have exactly the same plan for Saints, but in reverse. |

A ground we've tended to do pretty well at if my memory can be trusted. |

Blimey, sounds like you have some exciting dreams. But yeah, this is the key thing. Last year a returning loanee couldn't play for their parent club if they've already played in earlier rounds, but this year they can. |

Think of it this way - he's never missed one as a Saints player and that's what matters. Long may that continue. |

It wasn't the cheeseburger that caused his death. It was trying to get it out the other end. |

I guess we'll see George Long on Saturday. We should do anyway, in case we need him in the league later. But no Jones I suspect. Peretz on the bench. Long had a great start to his career but tailed off. I wonder why. Maybe we'll find out! |

The club say they did this specifically to HELP the youngsters. Jamie Jones will be doing minor jobs to help out in training. He's not doing anything that helps him develop. The club didn't want to waste the time of the youngsters in doing this. They want the youngsters to be focused on their own development. Makes sense to me. |

Tonda was told by the medical team not to play Ross for more than 30 mins. You want a starter to come off after 30? In the end he played for 45 because of the circumstances, but that was a risk and we don't know what the full effects were yet. Each time he plays he accumulates damage which builds up without rest. You can't see it on a scan because the tears are too small but they're there. Maybe the next game will be when the accumulated damage goes pop, like it did in October and has done several times before. Keep playing him twice in 4 days and it will happen at some point. |

Stewart was unavailable to start, looks like Larin is also not fully fit, Oyekunle doesn't look ready for it, so who would you have started? You say we're past the time when we can take chances, but who could have played that we weren't taking a chance on? |
 | Forum Reply | Ross Stewart at 13:19 11 Feb 2026
It's a definite yes for me. If the medical staff are doing their job (big if) they will have him on a program that is gradually strengthening his muscles. Just based on the evidence we have, he can contribute 60 mins per week even without further strengthening. Next year he may be abled to do 90. What we should be doing is signing a new first choice (maybe Larin will work out and we don't need to??) and using Ross as alternate, with a youngster as 3rd choice CF. The alternative of replacing Ross with a new, equally good signing, PLUS signing a new first choice would be very expensive and I can't see that happening, whatever league we're in. |
 | Forum Reply | Archer at 11:11 11 Feb 2026
Archer doesn't have the ability to play as a CF, he's sh1t at it, but you're right, that's unfortunately what we have to do. As I said on the Larin thread, we are still dependent on Ross Stewart staying fit. That's the key thing. He is our first choice CF and if he is unavailable, it's unlikely that Larin can do the whole job on his own. Listened to Going home with Adam and Jo and they were saying that Stewart should have started, even though the medical team were saying that he should only do 30 mins! What a pair of fvkin morons. I'm not surprised at Blackmore but I am surprised Tessem would be so dumb. It's not about him being "too tired", it's about the risk to his muscles. Micro tears happen naturally in very game, it happens to everyone. They build up without rest and gradually weaken the muscle. Some are more at risk than others of those micro tears leading to a big muscle tear. Unfortunately that's where Stewart is. Contrary to what the radio morons say, it would be idiotic to overplay Stewart because we'll just lose him again, like we did earlier in the season and we saw what happened then. Larin has improved this situation, but he hasn't fundamentally changed it, and he has his own fitness issues. So, unfortunately we'll have to use Archer at times. It would have been great if we'd managed to swap him for a proper CF in January but we are where we are. Archer is just one of those SR cock ups that we have to live with for now. |
 | Forum Reply | Not many can play for 90 mins. ? at 13:49 9 Feb 2026
I don't know what the full comment was but I suspect he's talking about players like Stewart and Leo. In that case, it's really about strength rather than fitness i.e. they risk damaging muscles if they put them under strain for 90 mins in an all action league like the Championship. It's probably not about cardiovascular fitness. Some players are just more liable to tweaked hamstrings etc and you can't cure that by sending them on cross country runs. You need a long term plan of gradually building up muscle strength, particularly the ability to withstand stretching. |
 | Forum Reply | Scienza and Edozie at 12:33 9 Feb 2026
When Robinson was on form, he made a difference, he made things happen. That's never been the case with Edozie. Edozie can look good but rarely produces any end product. Maybe Eckert can turn Edozie into a different type of player, but I doubt he has the time. If Edozie was going to develop into the real deal, he should have done it by now. So for me, it's Robinson before Edozie. In crunch games, TE might prefer Matsuki over both of them. |
 | Forum Reply | Scienza and Edozie at 10:07 9 Feb 2026
Not sure Edozie gets game time. He was only there because Robinson was injured. We'll probably need both but I'd say Edozie is 4th choice winger. |
 | Forum Reply | Cyle Larin at 10:05 9 Feb 2026
Absolutely, a big strong centre forward is exactly what we have needed (so obvious for so long) and first impressions are that he can do the job. As I said at the time, one of the best things about this window is that the club have finally shown that they understand the problem and tried to sign 2 six foot plus CFs while offloading the utility forwards that they mistakenly thought could lead the line. It should be said though that we are still dependent on Ross Stewart staying fit. He is our first choice no. 9 and if he is unavailable that puts the pressure straight on to Larin. Being the only centre forward option (Archer isn't a CF) would be a different thing than coming on for the last half hour. |

Yeah, no one would say that today but Tony's right that's what people used to say. Another word where the usage has gone completely, like spastic.... or bender. |
