What commentator do you dislike the most?
at 15:36 18 Feb 2026

Spot on Pat. Barry Davies was a class above the rest. I never understood how the BBC elected to put the man-child Motson on the FA Cup Final ahead of Barry Davies, Motson was not fit to lace his boots.

Have to say I didn’t mind Brian Moore on ITV, in fact I used to watch the build up to the FA Cup Final on the BBC then switch over to ITV for the 1st half as Moore v Motson was no contest, then back to BBC for half time and back again to ITV for the second half so no annoying ads and no annoying Motson sounding like an excitable schoolboy on crack.

Thinking back to the old days of the Big Match highlights show on Sunday about 2pm. Some of the regional commentators were so biased in favour of their local teams. The likes of Hugh Johns & John Helm (ATV & YTV respectively) were amongst the best when it came to commentating through rose tinted specs.

That said one of my favourite World Cup memories was John Helm, a dyed-in-the-wool Yorkshireman & England supporter commentating on Brazil v Scotland, he couldn’t disguise his unbounded joy at seeing Scotland get a right pasting by Brazil describing one goal Zico scored as perfect goalscoring, but he just sounded SO very happy.

The BBC MOTD female commentators Robyn Cowen & Vicki Sparks by a country mile. Literally hit the mute button the second the host says ‘and your commentator is’ just can’t stand either of them.

Co-coms that won’t shut up, half the time they just repeat what the main commentator has just said.

Commentators who have to constantly over exaggerate the pronunciation of foreign names so they sound like they are either bringing up phlegm or choking on a sandwich.

Chris Sutton’s constant whining.

Wayne Rooney, so many ex-players to choose from - why??

Apart from the blue few I agree, Wrexham. If they make the play-offs whoever they come up against are likely to be playing against the team and the ref as well. The PL bods and the broadcast partners will be desperate to get the Hollywood Taffs over the line and into the PL simply for the massive marketing opportunities it opens up in America. Further ‘Disneyfication’ of the PL would undoubtedly follow as the ‘fairytale’ was sold (for the appropriate subscription fees) to the American public and no doubt many more people besides.

The capacity of the Putney End is 5,926 so if they give us the entire end that should be what we get.

Think it was sensible to rest Stewart completely especially as we have no midweek game he can get a 10 day break without a game as can a few others. Thought we did OK, important to have got to HT without going behind as I thought Leicester were not bad in the first half. Credit to Edozie for putting in a shift and earning us the Pen. Superb equaliser, stuff what that idiot Sutton was whining about it not being hit properly. We didn’t cave in, we kept plugging away and in the end got a result. Thought some of the nippers did OK too, Bragg we know about already but thought Williams was good and I don’t think anyone subbed on looked out of their depth. As for Archer, never mind not being able to hit a cow’s backside with a banjo, I think you could upgrade that to elephant at the moment! The icing on the cake was the Skates lost to a 90th min goal at home to Sheff Utd, they’d be back in the bottom three if it wasn’t for Leicester’s points deduction, we should launch an appeal to halve it! 😄

Multiple changes from midweek. Several key players have the day off , not even in the bench. Not that many survivors from the starting XI midweek plus a few youngsters in the bench as well.

Just had a look on flashscore. In the PL so far this season they have used 9 English players out of a total of 27, that said, 4 of the 9 are youngsters with only 7 appearances between them and most of those as very late subs with only Fletcher [108] having more than single figure total minutes. So that takes it down to 5 with half decent or regular minutes which is less than 20%.

Tyler Fredricson [1]
Ayden Heaven [11]
Harry Maguire [13]
Luke Shaw [26]
Jack Fletcher [3]
Kobbie Mainoo [17]
Mason Mount [17]
Shea Lacey [2]
Bendito Mantato [1]

When was the last time Saints came back from 3 down?
at 23:25 10 Feb 2026

I remember being at a similarly nuts game away at Norwich near the end of the 93/94 season, we were 3-1 down and I think 4-2 down, Le Tiss completed his hat trick to haul us back to 4-4 then Ken Monkou hit a last minute winner for 5-4 to Saints.

Will Still set to be appointed Wigan manager

You make a fair point DD, when I said recently, I was thinking more of the last 5 seasons. Things started off OK for them with promotion back to the Championship in 21/22 but the wheels fell off the following season as they finished 24/24 so finished up back in League One. A 12th placed finish in 23/24 was followed by a 15th placed finish last season and now 22nd this season.

Regarding the suffering of being a Saints fan over the last few seasons, I feel your pain for sure…

The path to a play off place - who plays who?
at 18:38 8 Feb 2026

There have been quite a few comments in recent posts asking the all important question, can we make the play-offs? Not an easy thing to predict as just 5 points currently separate the 10 clubs between Wrexham in 6th place and Swansea in 15th with Saints in 14th place on 42 points. No massive differences in GD either with the best +6 and the worst -1.

The key thing for me is that there are 31 vital ‘6 pointer’ games where teams between 6th & 15th play each other meaning 3 points have to be shared between two teams in the mix to depose Wrexham and claim the final play off spot. Here is who plays who on the final third of the season in those 6 pointer games. Later on I will do a look at final points totals based on 5 game & 10 game current form.

Wrexham 47 +5
Bristol City A / Watford A / Swansea H / Southampton H / Birmingham A / Stoke H

Preston 47 +4
Watford H / Swansea A / Stoke H / QPR H / Birmingham A / Southampton H

Bristol City 46 +5
Wrexham A / Swansea A / Watford H / QPR A / Southampton A / Birmingham A / Stoke H

Derby 45 +6
Swansea A / Watford A / Birmingham H / Stoke H / Southampton A / QPR A

Birmingham 45 +4
QPR H / Derby A / Wrexham H / Preston14th H / Bristol City H

Watford 44 +3
Preston A / Derby H / Bristol City A / Wrexham H / Stoke A / QPR A

QPR 44 -1
Southampton A /Birmingham A / Watford H / Preston A / Bristol City H / Swansea H / Derby H

Stoke 43 +6
Swansea A / Watford H / Preston A / Derby A / Wrexham A ( Bristol City A

Southampton 43 +3
QPR H / Wrexham A / Derby H / Swansea A / Bristol City H / Preston A

Swansea 42 + 1
Derby A / Bristol City H / Preston H / Stoke H / Wrexham A / Southampton H / QPR A

At the Royal Command Performance in 1964, Tommy walks on stage with a room heater. He says, '”They told me to go out and warm the crowd up.”

A woman told her doctor, 'I've got a bad back.' The doctor said, 'It's old age.' The woman said, 'I want a second opinion.' The doctor says, 'OK. You're ugly as well.'

I'm on a whiskey diet, I’ve lost three days already!
