Clubs to vote on expanding the Play-Offs to 6 Clubs
at 21:05 14 Feb 2026

In the US the playoffs across baseball, nfl and nba have all been expanded over the last 5 - 10 years. It creates more games and more revenue opportunities. Typically the teams limping into playoffs in the expanded formats are cannon fodder for the stronger teams.

The interesting scenario here though would be an 8th place team would only have to win two games and on two game aggregate semi final to make it to the premier league. That's not totally impossible, especially if they have a late surge in form getting them into eighth at the end of the season: However, an eighth placed championship team would be destroyed in the premier league. So I'm not sure it really makes sense.

Even bigger IF that we won the playoffs, this would represent the strongest negotiating position SR will be in to sell the club.

Tonda a rope a dope genius. Lulled them into a false sense of security with a 3-0 lead before switching to a big man up front...

Armstrong And Archer Moves in Doubt As Transfer Chains Breaks Down

Palace, 15th in the league, spend GBP 48 mn on one player. Shows you how screwed up the money situation is and how hard it is to even stay in the top flight let alone push for Europe like we did 10 plus years ago...

Adam Armstrong off to Wolves for £7 million then....

My concern is the fact we've not been linked with any players is less about the club doing their business discreetly and more that we have no intention of spending any more money. We'll likely get a striker from the danish second tier on loan that has three career coals but a high "xG".

With Kat attending recent games, I can only hope there is a potential for the club being up for sale. As it stands, it's pretty depressing. However the standard is so low we remaining within touching distance of the playoffs.

Should also say 6 wins from 7 looked an impossibility 7 games ago so not trying to put a negative spin, just saying if we can upgrade a few players in Jan we can hopefully enjoy the second halves of games too!

It strikes me the bench is weak but we need to rotate players to keep them fresh and injury free. Hopefully in Jan we can clear out some of those not up to snuff and bring in competition for the first team that will add to the team when they come off the bench rather than dilute it. (A bit like the England rugby union team bringing on some of their stronger forwards with 30 mins to go to overwhelm a tiring team and out muscle the second tier opposition bench players brought on to counter them).

I live near his building and walked past the Straberry fields memorial to him walking my dog on Saturday morning. Despite the weather it was heaving with people and tons of flowers being laid. It's nice so many respect his legacy still.

Excellent crisp passing, always looking to move the ball forward and using pace given our lack of height to attack.

Brilliant half of football. Really doesn't reflect very well on Stills chances of future management employment.

And Quebec City - oldest settlement/city in North America. Beautiful old town and great food everywhere. While it's very cold in winter, it's beautiful with lots of outdoor winter activities to do. I'm going back this Feb.

I'd add Charleston in South Carolina (just not in summer - opposite to Chicago in winter, never been anywhere more hot and humid in my life and that was only mid June). It's a modern southern City/town with great food, music and bars.

Also Boston is a great place for both Sport and American history. You can also travel up the east coast of MA and ME and end up in Acadia national park if you want to extend the trip. Lovely spring/summer/autumn time but a bit brisk in winter...

Given he's not getting a game, can we not bring Ramsdale back in Jan? Surely he'd rather play in Championship than sit on the bench for a Newcastle team that currently looks more likely to be fighting to get out of the bottom half than qualifying for Europe.

From SR perspective, he wont be gaining any value on the bench...
