MK Fan here. I watched your game on Monday and was interested to see opinions on here. The whole game felt very toxic and the atmosphere was poor (and that's coming from a Don's fan!). It sounded like you'd had the life sucked out of you and I'm not surprised as the game was dire and I suspected previous games have been similar? A lot of booing out of frustration due to lack of chance creation and overplaying was all too familiar to his time with us. I'm replying to this comment because it is 100% spot on. In my opinion, Martin is a salesman and he's good at it. He's never achieved anything in management but continues to get plaudits due to 'playing the right way' and his 'impressive' possession stats. Us and you were no more than an experiment and stepping stone to a Prem club (which would be fine if he was getting points on the board rather than possession stats) While he was with us, we did not progress but were sold on his 'part of the process' speech he'd give after each loss and the promise they we were improving and that he needed time. Alongside this, we were receiving all sorts of recognition for having the 5th highest possession stats in all of Europe! Deep down, this wasn't a positive for us watching every game but for those outside of the club, it was viewed as incredible and that Martin was the next best thing. Martin loves the sound of his own voice. I'm not annoyed that he left us on the opening game of the season, I'm annoyed that he's been able to succeed off the back of possession stats and not results. The game on Monday was like watching us under Martin all over again. Having significantly more possession but the opposition are the ones creating far more chances. The over playing it around at the back and then giving it away with a sloppy pass in the most dangerous area will never stop. I'm pleased to see Swan's fan are finally catching on to Martin and no longer fooling for his sale pitch. [Post edited 1 Mar 2023 11:27]
