IFR funding levy
at 13:53 23 Oct 2026

I'd be giving the job specs of the '100 staff' a right going over. Really, 100?

Bet we'll find a few years down the track, a series of job cuts, with no corresponding reductions in the levy.

Half decent tv
at 12:43 23 Oct 2026

Just finished the latest series of 'The Diplomat' on Netflix.

Reasonable watch, albeit I think much of the time devoted to the personal relationships of Kate and Hal, and Eidra and Stuart would be better used for the absorbing plot lines. One thing this shows does well, is leave it hanging, almost begging, for a new series to be commissioned. However, I read that viewership has fallen.

Also looking forward to the season 2 return of, 'Dept. Q'. If for no other reason, than the show stealing performance of Akram. Wasn't a huge fan of Mathew Goode before this show, but in this, he was excellent. Always think he's a bit of a poor man's, Hugh Grant and wouldn't have put cash on him being as good as he was in such a, non-foppish role.

Embarrassing Tourist Things
at 11:25 23 Oct 2026

Well, now we're on the verge of taking this thread over the line toward the random irritation thread!

Another of my childish endeavours, involves bluetooth speakers. Hook it up to your phone, get it playing softly, then 'kin 'ave it!

I was accompanying Mrs PH to an arts supply store when we were living in Doha. Seeing my opportunity, I peeled off and next, the staff were scurrying to the speakers display to find and turn off the offending one, which was booming!.

Given we're in the desert, I thought Oasis would be perfect. Liam's dulcet tones advocating a diet of cigarettes and alcohol wasn't appreciated. Mrs PH appears uttering, 'That was you!', as I ushered her out when the security guards entered the picture

Embarrassing Tourist Things
at 06:04 23 Oct 2026

Last couple of years I've been to Portugal and Spain several times. Although it's not really a 'touristy thing', you might know that in this part of the world, they sell a lot of ornate tiles, especially letters and numbers.

Consequently, I've become obsessed with rearranging the tiled letters: P, Q, and R, whenever I pass a shop selling tourist tat.

On one occasion Mrs PH popped out to get something, and messaged me a picture simply asking: 'Is this you?' I'm no Banksy, but I've got an idea how he feels when his work is recognised.

So, next time you're in the Iberian peninsula, add this to your 'touristy things to do' list. Certainly on mine next month

Very much a poor man's Cole Palmer for me.

He's a moments player and you just hope he has more moments than not. Clearly something there, he's just got to find a way to up the moments count and impose himself more. For me he's someone I'd sum up by his shots: he tries to culture them in when sometimes, you really need to give it a bloody good wallop...if you know what I mean.

Speaking of potentially talented midfielders, what's happening with Isak? Thought we should have seen an appearance before now.

Film 2026; don't think we have such a thread yet
at 15:05 19 Oct 2026

Think you called it fella.

Because Mrs PH has to see the credits in their entirety, I saw that Odin was played by four different dogs. But you're right, he steals it.

Don't want to spoil it, but in the end, Brad Pitt still looks better than one of our players recovering from a big injury and is more likely to play for us than Obikwu.

WTF happened to him?

He looked 'raw' just on that little pastiche you served up, but his second was finished with some aplomb!

Raise you with, Leroy Griffiths.

Scored a cracker against Chelsea in a PSF, not sure he played for the 1st team. Upon signing he said: 'I want to be in the Champions League within five years!' I do hope FIFA 2003 was a successful purchase for the lad.

I saw him play one of those at Goodison on a miserable evening. I think the pie sellers showed more interest!

Wasn't there a story that Kevin Gallen asked him something along the lines of: what's Australia like to break the ice? Zelic allegedly replied, in a dismissivetone tone, 'Go and see for yourself!'

Tony Simmons - Venables' one for the future and he cost a few quid atthe time.

Kurt Bakholt - a sub appearance.

Armel Tchakounté - mentioned in the OP. I saw him in a reserves game. Baby Jesus and the four outriders of the apocalypse, but he was truly, truly, awful. Thank feck he never played in the First XI. I suspect there's a file somewhere where money laundering cases are investigated and the reason they let the matter lay on the books, was because they felt sorry for us and/or taking it further might break the capitalist system.

Never like to hear players out for long periods. Their careers are short, and bad injuries can be just that: bad.

Sure everyone will rally round him. Amadou does seem the kind of player that his absence may well act as a rally call for the others.

Get well soon fella!!

Thought early on he didn't look a good footballer.

However, I remain of the view that asking him to 'play football' is not the answer. He literally needs to focus on two things: giving the oppo CHs a good bashing and ensuring he's in goalscoring positions.

To achieve the latter, he needs to improve on two things. He looks a thick set gentleman shall we say, so keeping leaner and fitter would help. Secondly, reducing his running to a confined area to preserve energy. No point charging down the oppo's FBs all the time if it knackers him out and stops him getting in where he needs to be and what I think he's still good at: finishing!
